| Show matt newman well known man passed away matt newman one of the camp s best known residents died quite sud denly on friday ol 01 last week mr newman had for the past few years buttered suffer e d to some extent from lung trouble resulting from many years of work underground but he remain ed active up until his death the sudden manner in which death cama came causes members of the family to think that a blood vessel may have haye been ruptured matt newman was born at wasa finland inland jan lith 1862 1962 he cams came fo this country in january 1883 and after a six months residence in michigan bovea moved westward and settled at eureka this camp has been his home ever since that time and it was here that he married in 1891 mr newman was naturalized in 1893 and throughout his residence in the united states he P proved ove himself a loyal american I 1 a to his widow the decease s survived by six children also t two brothers john and mike newman who live in fin rin land john was at one time a rest dent of this city but some years ago returned to the land of his birth mr newman newmans s children are enoch eu gene mrs dorothy thomas delia delta vinie virile and hazel mrs thomas lives at goshen all of the other children are residents of this city during the years spent in tin tic mr newman followed mining living an upright honorable life and being one of eureka s leading citi zens friends are mourning hs death and the te reporter joins with others in extending sympathy to the wife and children funeral services were held at the M E church in eureka on sunday afternoon rev rey frary delivered the eulogy and musical numbers were rendered by the choir pali pall bearers were the following old time friends bt bf mr newman peter johnson john enlund ed erickson Eri ekson chas holmes mike engstrom and john sampson the last mentioned coming here from for the funeral burial took place at the city cemetery |
