South Summit School fourth grade teacher Sheryl DeGering and Principal Louise Willoughby participated in the "seat belt convincer" activity. With motor vehicle crashes being the leading cause of injury related death for children ages 1-14, three Summit County elementary schools took the pledge to be safe in all vehicles through the "Click-It Club" program. The main goal of the program is to educate students and parents of the importance of being properly restrained in either a seat-belt or booster seat. "Best practice tells us that children will not fit the adult safety belt until they are over 4'9", which is generally between 8 and 12 years of age" said Mandy Webb injury prevention specialists for the Summit County Health Department. "Children may weigh between 80-100 pounds before they can safely wear an adult seat belt. "Too often children are anxious to move out of a booster seat which is why the Click-It Club is important." Participating Summit County schools won all the awards offered by the ClickIt Club program with North Summit Elementary winning for Best Overall Program, South Summit Elementary for most increased seat belt use and Trailside Elementary School for highest overall seat belt use. To ensure that every occupant is properly restrained for every ride children should: Ride in a back seat until they are at least 13 years of age.; Ride in a car seat/booster seat as long as possible, as long as the child is within the height and weight requirements described by the manufacturer and follow their in- structions; Only use an adult seat belt when the belt lies snugly across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt is snugly across the shoulder and chest; Avoid purchasing safety seats from yard sales, flea markets and second hand stores or when there is no known history of the seat. When installed and used correctly, child safety seats and safety belts can prevent injuries and save lives. $$ FOR JUNK CARS You Bring in or We Haul Off - Call Us!
