Show JUNE SUMMIT COUNTY NEWS 15, 2012 Auto-pedestrian injury accident PCPD officers responded at 6:44 p.m. this evening to an auto-pedestrian accident in the parking lot of the Park Side Apartments (1176 Kearns). Witnesses observed a young male driving a car in the parking lot when it appeared a young girl jumped onto the hood of the moving vehicle. As the vehicle stopped suddenly the girl rolled off the car and the ve- hide then ran over the top of her. The girl was pinned underneath the car until PCFD personnel were able to extricate her using bladder air lifts. The victim was transported by ambulance to Primary Children's Hospital for treatment for numerous injuries. The victim is a 14 year old girl from Summit County and her parents responded to the hospital. The driver, a 16 year old friend of the victim who lives in Park City, was released to his parents pending the completion of the investigation. The vehicle involved is owned by the driver's parents. Officers are continuing the investigation but it appears at this time no drugs or alcohol was involved. Investigation updates will be posted on PCPD's Twitter page. Fatal OHV accident involving a 12 year old On June 8, at approximately 10:10 a.m. the Wasatch County Dispatch Center received a 911 call that an OffHighway Vehicle ("OHV") accident had occurred in the Clyde Creek area of Wasatch County, which is near Strawberry Reservoir. Initial reports indicated two patients were involved both males about twelve years of age. Emergency medical crews from Wasatch County were dispatched to the area and law enforcement officers from the United States Forest Service, Utah State Parks, and Wasatch County Sheriff's Office responded. When emergency crews arrived on-scene, they assessed the situation and ultimately pronounced one of the males, a twelve year old from Saratoga Springs, deceased. The other victim reportedly received minor injuries and was transported to Heber Valley Medical Center. Preliminary reports indicate the two young men were riding the same four-wheeler on a gravel road as the driver worked to negotiate a turn in the roadway. The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle rolled. In the rollover, the driver appears to have been pinned under the vehicle. Both young men were wearing helmets at the time of the accident. As families and friends spend time recreating, we strongly encourage safety in all respects: Wearing helmets when using OHVs, having adults actively involved in OHV use, and in driving safely and responsibly. This is a tragic accident that occurred and we extend our deepest sympathies to the families of those involved.
