Show Thursday, November 17, 2011 Schools The Gunnison Valley Gazette Page 5 The wish we dreamed came true :" by STELLA HILL o- The stage was set. Costumes were donned. The last mouse face was painted with whiskers. The audience was seated. After weeks of singing, dancing, reciting lines and just a little bit of screaming, it was curtain time. Our cast of over 80 students—including 35 mice from the 6th grade— was waiting nervously in the wings. A frustrating morning practice had left Kristal and me wondering if we would actually be able to pull it off. We were wishing for a dream to come true and praying really, really hard too. A nod to Mr. Peterson and the lights went out. Josie Sorensen read her introduction and started the music. Back stage, Korie Catmull pulled the curtains and Alyssa Worthington moved the lights first to dim, and then full up. Unbelievable to both of us, the magic began. As each musical number unfolded, we each relaxed just a little more, and we were able to laugh and enjoy the show along with the audience. Our stage crew, Josie Sorensen, Alyssa Worthington, and Korie Catmull, along with McKayla Fonville and Kyrsten Andrews running the spot light, took charge and the show played out almost flawlessly. After the bows ending the show, we both smiled at each other and shook our heads. Our hats are off to all of the cast members. Our leads sang beautifully and acted their parts. The fight between the step sisters required some dress mending back stage, but was hilarious to watch. The chorus numbers ranged from crazy excitement from the mice, to graceful elegance as we moved to the ball. Our Fairy Godmother with her magic wand, created a scene that was almost as enchanting as Disney himself, when Cinderella stepped into her lighted coach. A bow from the footman, fol- lowed by the coachman's yell, and she was whisked away to the ball in her carriage, pulled by six white horses. A missed cue on Thursday night left everyone wondering where we would pick up. A call for Josie to "just run the music," gave Jaq, the mouse, a familiar lead into his song, and he sprang into action. The rest of the show moved right along. No one seemed to notice that the palace clock was still visible at the home of the Stepmother, or that a prop was missing from the chair. We would like to take this time to publicly thank the students who worked very hard to put this show together. On many dark mornings, the parking lot was lit with headlights from parents faithfully dropping their children off for 7 a.m. practice. Thanks to you! Our principal, faculty and staff are all part of this undertaking. Classes are covered, meals are cooked, and good friends drop in to take over classes, knowing how frazzled we would be. Thank you, Gunnison Valley for supporting our musical, "Cinderella." Without you, the show really wouldn't go on. It has been a pleasure to be part of this tradition one more year. And remember, "If you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true." LES MIZ The contest to win $50,000 is continuing! Please vote for Gunnison Valley Elementary in two ways.
