Show Thursday, November 3, 2011 Schools The Gunnison Valley Gazette Page 5 GVMS celebrates Red Ribbon Week "Take a Stand, Lend a Hand" was the theme for Gunnison Middle School's Red Ribbon Week. Bully-prevention was the focus. The counselor gave anti-bullying presentations to each class in each grade. Students were taught the difference between normal conflict versus bullying, the difference between a report and a tattle, rules for bully-proofing the classroom, and empowering skills to respond to bullies. Students were encouraged to report any bullying to an adult, or use the "Buddy Box" as a venue to report bullying observed by students who wish to stay anonymous. Students participated in a school wide fund raising aluminum can competition: "Kindness CAN make a difference!" The PTO sponsored a Subway party for the class bringing in the most aluminum cans. (7th grade won!) Student Body Officers chose fun activities for the students to participate in during the week to support bully- prevention. ourtesy oto GVMS Student Body Officers, Payton Judy, Chris Shober, Asia Nielson, Layne Jensen and Chandler Christenson are pictured with the Red Ribbon Week winners.
