City recorder Debbie Hansen spent hours researching receipts to find those pertaining to work completed and paid for on the Old Rock Church project. These receipts as well as all financial records were then reviewed by City Auditor, Rick Roberts. Roberts reported back to the mayor and city council on October 6th that no material errors had been found. Although the current procedures used to allocate said funds would need to be altered. The only money used by the city out of the general fund was for the initial purchase of the property and engineering in the amount of $23,000 in 2002-2003. Questions arose when there appeared to be monies used from the city's general fund to pay for the ongoing work on the Old Rock Church project. This however was not the case as monies to cover these expenditures had been rolled into the general fund from the separate grant monies earmarked for the ORC to cover each payment made by the city. The original grant secured by former Mayor Darwin Jensen in 2007 to renovate the Old Rock Church is nearly exhausted, with only approximately $3,000 remaining to complete the project. The city council then asked Mardy Jensen who is currently working on the project for an estimate run ar unruson 'a ey azette Centerfield's Old Rock Church is currently undergoing renovation. on the cost of finishing the interior of the building and then pouring the much needed sidewalks. Councilman Jensen felt he could finish the interior of the building for approximately $12,000. This would get the building to where it could be rented out by the city and begin to generate income. As part of the initial agreement for the grant money received in 2007, then sitting Mayor, Darwin Jensen and the city council passed a resolution promising to only use grant money and private funds to finish the project even the grant money was not enough to do so. Mayor Tom Sorenson and the city council then debated back and forth on the project and if the completion of the interior was even possible for the Old Rock Church at the present time due to funding. Jensen, a member of the Old Rock Church Committee felt the $3,000 left from the 2007 grant was enough to pour sidewalks. It was then suggested that the ORC could possibility obtain a loan from the city to finish the project. The ORC would then agree to repay the loan to the city, as revenue from the rental of the building was collected. After a long discussion and the need to pour the sidewalks before the weather turned, the council took a vote to loan the ORC $30,000 for completion of the Old Rock Church interior. It passed 3-0 with Councilman Keith Garff abstaining to vote due to the appearance of a conflict of interest. Councilman Garff currently sits on the Old Rock Church Committee. Councilman Grant Mogle was not present to vote. Centerfield City is currently in the process of applying for an additional grant from the CDBG to pay for the construction of a separate building to house restrooms and a kitchen for the Old Rock Church, because the Old Rock Church is on the Histori- cal Register the building of a kitchen and restrooms within the original building was not permitted. Monies from any grant obtained from the CDBG can only be used on a pristine project. A pristine project is any project that has not already received funding. Therefore this new application for new grant monies cannot be used to finish the interior of the church. Any new grant money will be used to build an additional building to house a kitchen area and restrooms as well as finish the landscaping next spring. Gunnison Stake to hold Young Women Conference The 2010 Gunnison Stake Young Women's Conference will be held on Wednesday, October 20th from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gunnison Stake Center. "Rx for the Soul: Be Strong and of a Good Courage" will be the theme for this year's conference. Young Women and their leaders are invited to attend this inspirational evening, where they will feel of the spirit and have their testimonies strengthened. We are excited to hear from guest speakers who will help us understand some of the challenges facing young women today. Dallas and Janelle Overly will present one of the workshops. Dallas Overly was born in Salmon, Idaho to Don and Aliene Overly. One of five children, he grew up in Kalispell, Montana. He graduated from Flathead High School (no, it was not a school for learning challenged) in 1991. Dallas attended one year at Ricks College before serving a mission in Hungary, Budapest. After his mission, he returned to Ricks College in Idaho where he met his wife, Janelle. Janelle was born in American Fork to David and Rochelle Clark.
