They finished 3rd place after losing a tough game against Taylorsville, at the Utah State Babe Ruth Championship Tournament. The Bulldogs, who are coached by Dr. John Jackson, Fred Harris, and Rhon Jensen, went into the state championships in Taylorsville last Saturday. The boys had just come away as champions from the KBOil All Star Tournament in Richfield, and the Babe Ruth Utah South Tournament. As the boys entered the state tournament, they had high hopes, but they knew they would be facing some of Utah's baseball powerhouses. There were eight teams from Utah that had qualified to play in this tournament. Two teams from Kearns, two teams from Taylorsville, a team from Murray, one from Tooele, one from Carbon County, and the Bulldogs. Gunnison played great ball during the first part of the week in this double elimination tournament, first defeating a Kearns team Thursday, July 27, 2006 With the falls Sports nearly upon us, "6VHS would once again like to offer to t h ^ public the chance to order Bulldog jackets? •and shirts- This is not a fund raiser for the;, high schob.1, but rather a service offered for those parents;.and boosters who would like apparel. Wednesday evening Gunnison came up against Murray in what would prove to be a classic defensive struggle. Gunnison held a 10 lead for most of the game but gave up two late runs and lost the battle 2-1. The next evening, Thursday, Gunnison went up against Taylorsville. The winner of this game would go into the championship game against Murray, while the loser would fin- ish in 3rd place. Gunnison jumped out to an early lead and held a 7-2 advantage until the bottom of the fifth inning. That's when things fell apart for the bulldogs. Taylorsville exploded for 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth, an inning that lasted for an hour and a half. According to several parents, nothing seemed to go right. Despite several pitching changes and a valiant effort by the dogs, they just couldn't seem to get out of the inning. With (hat huge inning, Taylorsville put the game out of reach and ended up beating the Bulldogs 15-8. Taylorsville then moved on to face Murray for the championship, the winner to go on to play in the Babe Ruth Western Regionals held in Redding California. As of now the championship game has not been played. The Bulldogs ended up finishing third in the state tournament, a good end to a great season. Congratulations B"11dogs!
