Show Volume XXX Issue IX The Ogden Valley News Page 7 December 15, 2023 Announcements Obituaries Dell Bryant Stringham, Jr. July 22, 1931 ~ September 29, 2023 It is with mixed feelings we bid farewell to Dell Bryant Stringham, Jr. (1931 ~ 2023). While we are saddened at the passing Bryant and Beverly of our father, grandfaBurnett Stringham ther, great-grandfather, brother-in-law, and uncle, we rejoice at a life well lived and, most importantly, that he is reunited with his sweetheart, whom he has missed terribly these past five years. Bryant was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 22, 1931, the third child of Dell Briant Stringham, Sr. and Hildegard Schreiner Stringham, and passed away in Bountiful, Utah September 29, 2023 at the age of 92. In his youth, the family moved to Ogden, Utah where he lived until he left home, and where his parents resided until their passing. Bryant attended schools in Ogden, including Ogden High School. He served a proselyting mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Central States Mission, focusing his efforts with the Native Americans. After returning from his missionary service, he continued his education, attending Weber State and Brigham Young University. It was while at BYU that he met and courted a lovely young woman named Beverly Burnett. They were married in the Salt Lake City, Utah, LDS Temple on September 2, 1955. Immediately after marrying, they moved to Chicago so Bryant could attend the MBA pro- Donald Leroy Whiteley April 27, 1932 ~ November 23, 2023 Our loving father Donald Leroy Whiteley, 91, passed away November 23, 2023 with his loved ones surrounding him. Don was born in Donald Whiteley Liberty, Utah on April 27, 1932 to John S. and Violet R. Whiteley. He graduated from Weber High School in 1950. In June 1952 he was drafted into the army and was sent to Korea for the war. He was a mess sergeant and fed up to 2,000 soldiers a day and loved every minute of it. He returned in May of 1954, reconnected with his love Pamela E. Shulz, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on May 27, 1955. Don went from milking cows as a boy to delivering milk for Cream O’ Weber dairy until 1971 when he started working for a friend at Staco Distributing selling Olympic stain and PeachTree doors and windows. He retired from Trimco in 1997. Soon after Don and Pam were married, they bought a home in Sunset, Utah, where they had five children and many friends. When Dad was 34, he was called to be the Bishop of the Sunset Third Ward. He always spoke fondly of serving as bishop with his wonderful counselors. Later Don and Pam moved to Farmington where Dad loved to ride motorcycles in the mountains with his kids. Some of Dad‘s favorite activities were water skiing, fishing, and camping with the family. Mom and Dad had 49 wonderful years together until Mom passed too soon in 2004. Four years later, Dad married LaRae Day. They enjoyed fifteen years together traveling, spending time with family, and volunteering at the Joseph Smith Memorial building in Salt Lake City. After LaRae‘s passing, Dad went to live at The Beaumont Care Center, where he loved all those who cared for him, and they loved him too. We can’t thank them enough for the kind and loving care they gave dad during the past few months of his life. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pamela, and his second wife, LaRae; his parents; and his four siblings, Lawrence, Harold, Cecil, and Melvin. Don is survived by his children Melanie Shropshire (Mike), Brenda Childs (Scott), Darren Whiteley (Sam Maddox), Gaylen Whiteley (Angie), and Heather Singley (Tyler); 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; his stepchildren Zane Day (Debbie), Debbie Boyce (Mark), Jeff Day (Ranae), RaeDell Day, Kelly Day, Crystal Cook (John); 26 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and six great-greatgrandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lindquist Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Ogden Utah. Friends may visit with the family from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Cemetery, 4500 E. Washington Blvd., Ogden Utah. Carlos Vern Taylor, 86, died November 27, 2023. Michael Frank McCormick, 77, died November 29, 2023. Darce Lee Barnes, 89, died December 1, 2023. Gerlynn Frank Westergard, 72, died December 1, 2023. gram at Northwestern University. After completing his studies, he began work in finance and accounting at a number of companies. It was during this time they welcomed their four children: Sandy (Scott) Johnson, Dell Scott (Robyn) Stringham, Diane (Lavon) Trusler, and Don B. (Jennifer) Stringham. During this time, the family lived in Costa Mesa, California and then in San Jose, California, prior to moving to Livonia, Michigan, and then to Irvine, California, and finally, in retirement, to Bountiful, Utah. In every place they lived, they gathered lifelong friends. Mom and Dad loved working as docents at “This is the Place State Park” in Salt Lake City. During this time, they were able to acquire and relocate to the park Beverly’s great-grandfather’s pioneer cabin from Eden, Utah—the Burnett cabin—where it stands to this day. Dad and Mom loved to travel the world, especially with Mom’s brother DeMar and his wife Sharon. This ended when Mom began suffering from dementia, which took her life on May 29, 2018. Bryant is survived by his children and their spouses, 13 grandchildren, numerous greatgrandchildren, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, many nieces and nephews, as well as many dear friends. A private family memorial service was held Saturday, October 7, 2023, followed by interment at Bountiful Cemetery, next to his best friend and partner, Beverly. Karen Clark April 19, 1937 ~ November 29, 2023 Karen Ellen Sorensen Clark, 86, passed away November 29, 2023, in Ogden, Utah. She was born on April 19, 1937, in Preston, Idaho to Roy Ariel Sorensen and Ellen Agatha Monson. Karen Clark She graduated from Preston High School and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her favorite calling was working in the Church Library. She worked for the Dept. of the Army, Data Processing Division, from 1963 to 1966, then as a secretary for the U.S. Forest Service, retiring in January 1993 with 30 years of service. Karen married Jack Shaw Clark on August 16, 1957 in Preston, Idaho. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple, January 17, 1963. They shared 56 wonderful years together. Karen enjoyed spending time with family and friends playing card games, dice, and espe- cially camping. She also enjoyed reading, gardening, crocheting, cake decorating, crossword puzzles, canning, and putting up salsa. She was an avid cat lover and relished the time she had with each of them. To name a few, Panther, Peaches, Weazie, Spanky, Darla, and Babe. The family would like to acknowledge Taylor, David, and Shyla her hospice care providers, and the staff at the Gardens Assisted Living for all the loving care they provided to Karen. Karen is survived by her children Kathy (Danny) Stokes, Kevin (Chris) Clark, daughterin-law Cindy Clark, Nathan Clark, and Thane (Ruth) Clark; brother Richard Sorensen; and 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Clark, son Ty Clark, two grandsons Jeffrey and Curtis Clark, sister Pauline Marble, and daughter-inlaw Peggy Clark. Graveside services were held Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the Liberty Cemetery, 3930 N. 3500 E., Liberty, Utah.
