Madelynn Wells of Eden recently published The Witch from the Woods. The twist? Madelynn is only sixteen years old! Madelynn Wells first discovered her talent for writing in May of 2020, when she decided to write a short story for her famMadelynn Wells ily. After getting much support and positive feedback from family and friends, she began work on The Witch from the Woods in April of 2022 and published it in March of this year. Madelynn wishes to encourage kids and teenagers alike to use their imagination and to keep chasing their dreams, no matter how out of reach they may seem. Madelynn says the hardest part is getting started. But even if you do just a little every day, you will soon reach your goals. Madelynn says, “Anyone can be a writer, no matter how old you are. All it takes is perseverance, positivity, and a good imagination. Inspiration can spring from even the most mundane places and everyday events.” Many of the characters in The Witch from the Woods are inspired by and named after Madelynn’s real-life family and friends. Barnes and Noble Lulu Amazon Finding Connection at the Ogden Valley Branch Library! Loneliness has become epidemic in the United States. The Ogden Valley Branch of the Weber County Library System is offering Connection Kits during the month of January to help brainstorm ways to combat loneliness in our lives. Loneliness is “…associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular disease, dementia, stroke, depression, anxiety, and premature death,” according to the US Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy. The Connection Kits offered at Ogden Valley Branch have a variety of items that may help combat the effects of loneliness such as a journal to express gratitude, postcards to encourage reaching out to long-distance friends, and selfcare items to promote general well-being. In conjunction with these Connection Kits, the Ogden Valley Branch will host its January book discussion for Seek You: A Journey Through American Loneliness by Kristen Radtke on January 2 at 7:00 p.m. Limited free copies of the book will be available. Families are encouraged to come enjoy some wintery fun indoors by participating in our indoor snowball fight on December 27 at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy the fun of a snowball fight without getting cold or wet! Registration is required. Teens will create time capsules on December 28 at 6:30 p.m. and teens will be able to plan ahead for the upcoming year and create a time capsule to open in December of 2024. Registration is encouraged. Families can celebrate New Year’s December 30 at 11:00 a.m. for Ogden Valley Branch’s annual New Year’s at Noon program. Enjoy New Year’s noise makers and crafts to ring in the upcoming year in a surprising way. The choir will be joined this year by the Huntsville Bells, a bell choir directed by Becky Adams. The bell choir, like the Chordettes, is also made up of local Ogden Valley residents! The program will be held at the Chordettes’ usual venue, The Hearthside, which is located at 5612 E. 2200 N. in Eden. Three Christmas performances are scheduled this year: two on Sunday, December 10 with one at 5:00 p.m. and another at 7:00; and the third performance on Monday, December 11 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is free, and attendees of all ages are welcome. But make sure arrive early; seats fill up fast! We are also asking the community to bring canned or dry-packaged food, which will be donated to the Utah Food Bank.
