Show Page 6 The Ogden Valley News Volume XXX Issue V October 15, 2023 Announcements Obituaries Larry Lynn Gay September 8, 1938 ~ September 22, 2023 Larry Lynn Gay was the oldest of six children born to Clifford and Rita Gay. He was a Garry James Upshaw January 16, 1948 ~ September 6, 2023 Garry Updshaw Garry was born to Norma Rowe (Ramsey) and James Upshaw on January 16, 1958 in Elko, Nevada. He lived most of his life in the Ogden/North Ogden area. He married Val and they were blessed with three children: Melodie Randall (Aaron), Marc Upshaw, Heidi Irizarry. He later married Jenny and his family grew again as her children, Danielle and Patrick joined the family. He loved his children and family very much. He would want them to know that. Garry was a very down to earth, simple man with a heart of gold. He really loved being in the outdoors camping, sleeping under the stars, and living in the beauties around him. He loved the mountains and treasured the memories he had riding horses with his dad and brother Jimmy. He loved animals, especially his dogs! When “Did it” died, he lost a part of his heart. “Did It” got blamed for lots of things that Garry didn’t do! His last dog was named “Pooter.” He graduate of Weber High School and worked as a journeyman plumber. He lived in Huntsville where he had a passion for raising and selling horses. Larry is survived by his wife, Karen Gay; and his six children. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son. Arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Garry lived with Dad and Shirley on the farm for many years. They helped each other until Dad passed away in 2016. Shortly after that time, Garry moved to live with his sister Deb in Oregon. That is when he learned to love her cat “Spirit.” They had a special bond as well until Garry passed away. Garry’s life was a “life of hard knocks.” Some of life’s lessons he learned, and some he didn’t. We loved him regardless. He is survived by his children Melodie, Marc, Heidi, Danielle, and Patrick; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters Deb Howell, Linda Naylor (Marc), Kaye DuVall (Don), Kris Ramsey, Tammy Ramsey, and new-found sister, Wendy Williams; brother Jimmy Upshaw (DeAnne); and aunts, uncles, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and many other family members. The family would like to express thanks and gratitude for all who helped Garry on his journey through life, but especially his sister Deb, and his special cousin Rick French. We know he is at peace and has finally found the happiness he longed for. Rest in Peace Brother! We love you! Tracy Lee Brunker June 14, 1969 ~ October 6, 2023 A limb has fallen from the family tree, I hear a voice that whispers to me, “grieve not for me.” Remember the best times, the laughter the songs. Tracy Brunker The life I lived while I was strong. His mind is finally at ease and his soul is now at rest. Tracy Lee Brunker, 54, passed away October 6, 2023 in Huntsville, Utah. He was born June 14, 1969 in Ogden, Utah, the son of Julian W. and Edith E. Robinson Brunker. He graduated from Weber High School. Tracy married Michelle Schrock and they had one DeLoss Merril Eggleston July 10, 1926 ~ October 5, 2023 DeLoss Merril “Doc” Eggleston passed away October 5, 2023 at age 97. He was born July 10, 1926, the youngest of DeLoss Eggleston eight children of Joseph Smith Eggleston and Talitha Cuma Cheney. His siblings were Alice Christine, Joseph Wesley, Lola, Selar Orland, Laura, Melvin C., and Dale Lavar. He always thought he was Mom’s favorite: She would insist that he had a place near the pot-belly stove in Bill Calvin’s covered wagon that served as their “bus” to Eden Elementary School, and always made sure he had a ride home from Primary with her in her horsedrawn buggy. He got his nickname “Doc” from sharing similar glasses with Doc Wickstrom from Ogden Valley. Doc was raised on a farm in Eden, Utah until he was 17 years old. He and his brothers handmilked 20 to 30 cows a day and helped his father with the milk route from Liberty and Eden to the Weber Central Dairy on Ogden Ave. He attended Eden and Huntsville Elementary schools and Weber High School on 12th Street and Washington Blvd. in Ogden. He graduated in 1944 from El Monte High School in California after moving there to live with his sister Alice. In California during high school, he worked for Douglas Aircraft who contracted with the High Schools to make parts for the C47 airplane. DeLoss joined the Army in 1944. He was assigned to the 106th Infantry Division, and finished his tour in France and Germany as an MP. He was honored to receive a Utah Cold War Victory Medal and a Quilt of Valor in recognition of his military service. He was thrilled to go on an Honor Flight in 2015 to visit Memorials in Washington D.C. with other Veterans. He wore his WWII Veteran hat proudly. After the War, DeLoss was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to France. He was supported by his brother Orland and their Elder’s quorum. Following his mission, he attended the Sorbonne University in France. He earned an Associate Degree at Weber College, and then a Bachelor of Arts at Brigham Young University in 1953. Mr. Eggleston was one of the original faculty members at Ben Lomond High School. He taught History, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, French, and Driver Education for over 34 years. With military training in driving and experience running a motor pool in Berlin, he qualified to teach Adult Driver Education in Provo. He later taught Driver Education at Ben Lomond High School. He became involved in the National Driver Education Association and, as Director of that group, became involved in developing programs nationwide. He was also involved in getting the State Legislature to finance Driver Education in the High Schools. He designed and was responsible for developing the Ogden School District Driving Range and operated it for Ben Lomond until he retired. This established a pattern used by many other schools. DeLoss married Joan Wheelwright June 22, 1951 in the Logan, Utah Temple. Together they raised five children: Paul Eggleston, Ogden, Utah; Karen (Cary) Stark, South Ogden, Utah; Jan (Daniel) Rescia, Concord, New Hampshire; daughter. They later divorced. He was the kind of friend that would step up and offer help if you needed it. Tracy was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting in the fall, horseback riding throughout every season, and snowmobiling and riding trails in the deep powder in the mountains he called home. And he was fast to tell a joke and have a snappy comeback. Tracy was currently employed with the State of Utah DFCM as a grounds worker 2, he also worked at Red Rock Outfitters as a ranch hand and Snowbasin where he held multiple positions. Tracy is survived by his twin brother, Troy; daughter Kierin Brunker and Dalton Brunker, who he considered a son; grandson Thackery; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lynnette, Wesley, and Julie. Cremation entrusted to Myers Mortuary of Ogden. He will be buried in Huntsville at a later date. Condolences can be sent to the family at myers-mortuary.com. Tracy (Jack Randall) Sparks, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Brent (Lisa) Eggleston, Lehi, Utah. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joan; parents; siblings; his first child Etienne; two grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild. He is survived by his five children, fifteen grandchildren, and thirty-one greatgrandchildren. DeLoss was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church positions, including his mission to France, a Family History Mission, and as an Ordinance Worker in the Ogden Temple for many years. He devoted a great deal of time doing name extraction and indexing and coordinated ward and stake indexing efforts. Through the years, his children looked up to him as the ward chorister. This was also his most recent calling. He was a great gospel teacher and youth leader. He served as Ward Executive Secretary and on the Stake High Council. Doc enjoyed social groups and associations. He and his wife Joan were members of the Ogden Quarter Promenaders (a square dance club), serving as presidents in 1971. For many decades they enjoyed monthly activities with the Merry Makers (a group of friends). They enjoyed traveling with the Geodicipolus (another group of friends who enjoyed studying rocks and rock formations). He was active in the Ogden and Lehi Chapters of the Sons of Utah Pioneers and the American Legion (Posts 9 & 19). He was also a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants. DeLoss enjoyed a good golf game. However, he mostly enjoyed the sociality of the game. He loved weekly tee times with his wife, family or temple buddies. Ward tournaments were his favorite. He enjoyed traveling, especially visiting his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren and other relatives. Thank you for letting him stay with you. Thank you for letting him be a part of your lives! A Celebration of Life was held Friday October 13, 2023 in Lehi, Utah. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Interment at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden, Utah. The family extends thanks to the staff and nurses at Dignity Home Health and Hospice and Right at Home who assisted in his last days.
