Show Volume XXX Issue III The Ogden Valley News Page 13 April 15, 2023 Could a Ten-Year-Old Invent the Next Qualtrics? Could a Ten-Year-Old Invent the Next Qualtrics? Find out at the Valley Children’s Business Fair showcasing kids’ entrepreneurial genius! On Wednesday, May 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., the third-annual Valley Children’s Business Fair will host young entrepreneurs at Eden Park. This event is free and open to the public. Kids create a product or service, develop a brand, build a marketing strategy, and then open for customers at this one-day marketplace. The children are responsible for the setup, sales, and interaction with customers. This event is sponsored by URBN Pools, Acton Academy, The Acton School of Business, and the generous support of our donors and vol- unteers who all believe that principled entrepreneurs are heroes and role models for the next generation. Whether an entrepreneur is well known, like Ryan Smith, Larry Miller, or one of the thousands of unsung business owners across this country, these entrepreneurs are the people who make sacrifices to innovate, create jobs, and serve their communities. We can’t wait to see what the kids in Ogden Valley come up with and we hope as a community we can come and support these budding entrepreneurs! Applications are now open at childrensbizfair.com to apply for a booth. Learn more at ChildrensBizFair.com. Weber CTC Celebrates National SelfCare Day During the Month of April To celebrate National Self-Care Day (April 5, 2023), Weber CTC highlighted The SELFIE Method.® “SELFIE” was created by Casey Pehrson, Ed.S., NCSP and is “an acronym for self-care and a powerful arsenal against depression (selfiemethod.org/).” We encourage you to “Take a SELFIE” for self-care this month by focusing on at least one of the following components of the method. Or why not add a new one each month to your daily regiment! • Sleep: At least 8 hours of sleep each night. Turn all screen time o昀昀 at least 2 hours before bedtime. • Exercise: At least 30 min. of exercise each day. • Light: Get outside for some sunlight for at least 15 minutes a day. • Fun: Do something you love to do and have fun! • Interaction: Humans are social animals; thus, we need each other. Put your phones away and talk with your friends and family. • Eat Right: Eating well improves your overall health, which a昀昀ects mental health, too. Focusing on improving just one element of SELFIE is a great way to show up for yourself and improve your mental health. Behind the Scenes at Diamond Peak By Student Reporters Maryanne Hale and Scarlett Hyatt Hello again Ogden Valley. We are very happy to be behind the scenes at Diamond Peak, located at 2429 on State Road 158 in Eden. We walked in, and we saw all kinds of ski equipment, such as boots, gloves, coats, snowpants, and more. We talked to Lori Mortensen, Diamond Peak owner and manager. Diamond Peak was founded in 1993, so this is their 30th year in business. Lori says it has been a really great time. “We are really good at fitting boots,” said Lori. All around there are shelves of boots, all different sizes. Fun fact, for some people, your foot size is a different size when you sit down than when you stand up. Lori told us all about this cool boot-fitting machine that they have that actually heats up your ski boot and molds it to your foot so it fits perfectly, just for you! We thought that it was so thoughtful of them to make sure that everyone is always comfortable out on the snow. “What is your favorite part of your job?” asked Maryanne. “I love working with the people who work here as well as people who come from all around the world year-round. People from places like Japan, Germany and Australia have been coming here for 30 years and have become like family.” She also told us, “If you do what you love, life will be that much more fun!” After talking to Lori, we went and met some of the workers there like a manager named Brinn and techs Duncan, Kenzie, and Lindsey. They showed us the basement where there were cool molds of feet on the counter. The molds helped fit boots. While downstairs, they taught us all about what they do for repairs. For instance, they have this huge room where there are all types of machinery to wax, sharpen, and fix skis. Diamond Peak rents all kinds of ski equipment and even biking equipment. They even rent E-bikes so you can ride all day. Once we were back upstairs, Brinn taught us all about the different types of skis that we had never heard of. Overall, Diamond Peak was such an amazing, fun, and very well-organized shop. We love Diamond Peak so much!
