Show Volume XXX Issue VI The Ogden Valley News Page 7 January 1, 2023 Petition to Ogden Valley Planning Commission (OVPC) and Weber County Commissioners Regarding Short-Term Rental (STR) Expansion and Regulation in Ogden Valley Announcements Obituaries Claudia Alkema Ligori September 6, 1948 ~ December 17, 2022 Claudia Alkema Ligori Passed away, at the age of 74, December 17, 2022, surrounded by her Claudia Ligori family. Claudia was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was born September 6, 1948 to Lloyd and Irene Alkema. Claudia graduated from Ben Lomond High School. After school she would go to work with her dad at Joe Home Bakery. That’s where she met the love of her life, Ted Ligori. Claudia and Ted were married in St Joseph Church, and remained married for 54 years. She had two beautiful daughters: Stephanie and Jennifer. Claudia loved to go shopping with her sister Anna. She was always walking around the neighborhood, talking, and making lots of friends. Claudia loved to crochet blankets for family and friends. She also had an extensive collection of Nutcrackers from all over. At Christmas time she would decorate and place them all over the mantle and the table by the front door. Claudia would take in stray cats from the neighborhood due to her loving heart. She never drove, and always took the bus. And was kind to everyone she met. Claudia is preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Irene Alkema, sister Anna Rowley, and her in-laws Dominic and Rose Ligori. Claudia is survived by her husband Diodori (Ted) Ligori, her two daughters Stephanie Ligori, and Jennifer (Brian Daniel) Lloyd; her grandchildren Brittany and Daniel; her sister Joy Alkmena and brother Joe Alkema; her brothers and sisters-in-law Dickey and Josie Ligori, Joe and Sue Ligori, and Tony and Georgia Ligori; and many nieces and nephews. There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date, in the spring, for the family. Mom, you will be missed and be loved always, Ted, Stephanie, Jennifer, Brian, Brittany, and Daniel. Condolences may be shared with the family at leavittsmortuary.com. The undersigned residents of Weber County hereby urge that Weber County: 1. Impose an immediate moratorium on any expansion of STRs in Ogden Valley. This moratorium should grandfather-in all existing, legal STRs, but should halt approval of all new proposed zoning changes that would place any additional STRs in any zones in the valley in which they are not currently permitted. 2. Rapidly adopt effective and enforceable STR regulations. • In the absence of effective regulation, the number of illegal and disruptive STRs has expanded exponentially. • Two years ago, the Weber County Planning Department developed the option of a “proof of concept” proposal for new STR regulation. This proposal included: no STR expansion, using third-party enforcement services, tougher fines, and more effective enforcement. Planners stated that this plan would be effective, enforceable, and affordable. This option was represented to the West Weber Planning Commission on January 12, 2022. • As soon as possible, the OVPC and Weber County Commissioners should write and codify an ordinance similar to the “proof of concept” proposal that will allow no new STRs in any zones of the valley where they are not currently permitted. 3. Enforce current laws regulating STRs. • Ogden Valley provides a substantial amount of tax revenue to the county, but enforcement of current STR ordinances in Ogden Valley is under-resourced and thus ineffective. • Weber County Commissioners need to immediately dedicate enough resources to consistently enforce the existing ordinances for all STRs. Many generous community members, and friends of the Valley, responded with donations that will be allocated to next year’s match fund. Santa Claus was another philanthropist in our Valley this year. For a donation to CFOV, Santa made house calls to meet some lucky Valley children, and even joined in some community parties. Thanks to board member Hap Stephens for his awesome connection to the “Big Guy!” The CFOV Board members were thrilled to be able to get back to community events where the CFOV gathered with neighbors and friends to raise money and awareness for the nonprofits they support. The Music on the Patio evening at Wolf Creek Resort in June was fun, as was the Huntsville 4th of July parade and booth. The 1st Annual Fall Farm Festival at Sunnyfield Farm in Eden was a wonderful way to close out the summer with food, music, booths, and a successful Opportunity Drawing. These annual events were key to the CFOV’s ability to reach out to donors who love Ogden Valley. Thank you to all who donated in 2022. But remember, it is never too late to support this valley.
