On December 20, Weber County Commissioners tabled action on a request to consider and/or act on a request for approval of an amendment to the Weber County Land Use Code related to short-term rentals (STRs). A decision on the matter is slated to be made at the commissioners’ January 10, 2023 meeting. Ogden Valley has been waiting for over two years for the Weber County Commission to take action to address an out-of-control STR problem in this rural community. The county, by default, has been allowing STRs throughout the valley, even where zoning prohibits their use. The county claims they’ve lacked the ability to enforce county code governing STRs in Ogden Valley, and have recently hired an outside company to address this issue. Also on the December 20 agenda was a request for approval of an ordinance to rezone approximately 81.1 acres to the Form Based (B) Zone, and approximately 343.1 acres to the Open Space (O-1) Zone in the Nordic Valley area. The rezones are to facilitate the proposed development of the Nordic Valley Village development. The commission was also being asked to approve a zoning development agreement for the Nordic Valley Village that is intended to regulate the development of the Nordic Valley Village area. That little rain froze… this little bit of rain turned the roads into a sheet of ice! I came from River Road and slid a couple times but then on Highway 162, it was a[n ice] sheet. A kid spun fully out and is facing other way. Then another truck almost hit another when passing. Right between River Road and the turn to go to Nordic, this was [the] worst. The kid in the truck is ok. Help and trucks with sand heading there….” Shortly after 8:00 a.m. on the same morning, Weber Fire District, Ogden City Fire and Photo courtesy of Cherly Messerly. These developments have been on the table waiting for a funding source to accommodate their private development plans that need large water and sewer capacity systems. The agreement between Weber County and WCWSID will help finance the expansion of these sewer and water services—sewer system upgrades and the drilling of new drinking-water wells. The most current areas to be accommodated by the taxpayer-funded developments include Nordic Valley, Old and New Town Eden, Cobabe Ranch, Osprey Ranch, and Eden Crossing.
