Bob Stutz, who teaches fifth grade at Salem Elementary, said he only had four children in his class by the end of the day. Stutz said he wasn't really worried that the threat was real. "It's always a possibility, but we were pretty sure it wouldn't really happen," he said. "People who want to kill people don't usually call in before, but there's always a chance the threat was real," he said. Stutz said that, as a teacher, he does feel the responsibility of keeping the kids safe. "You do feel that responsibility when you've got ail those kids you're in charge of," he said. Stutz said it helped that he had full confidence in the local authorities to handle the situation. "The law enforcement and district did spectacular. That's one thing I really like about our town is we just have a fantastic police force. They do a great job," he said. The Salem Police Department held a press conference at 11 a.m. to explain the situation, and the district also drafted a letter that went out to all the children's homes. Candy Martin, a parent, said that she was one of the ones who left her children in school for the day. "I just felt like they really for our Presidents' Day Sale BOLDMOVES weren't in any danger," she said. "I drove by the school, and there were so many policemen, I thought it was probably the safest day they've ever had." Martin said that she felt it was good for her children to experience a day at school where conditions were not absolutely ideal. "I wanted them to get the experience," she said. "We live in a day and age where they might have to face things like this again. I think it's good for them to learn they can get through it, and they'll be okay." Overall.
