We had been taking him to church for a couple years when the leader of our congregation, whom we refer to as the Bishop, asked to speak to us. He said that Dustin was at an age when he should be given some responsibilities. In our church, when a boy turns 12, he is given the duty of sharing sacred sacraments or communion with the congregation. We expressed our concerns about Dustin's unpredictability. The Bishop smiled. "It will be okay. I am going to have him sit by me on the stand this next week, and he can watch the other boys white I coach him on what he should do." "You want him to come up and sit on the stand during the passing of the sacrament?" I questioned in surprise. "Actually." he replied, "I want him to sit by me during the whole meeting." I was even more amazed by this, but he assured me that it was what he wanted to do. The next week, the Bishop's assistant moved to another seat so Dustin could sit by the Bishop. Dustin could hardly contain his excitement. Even before the meeting started, the Bishop had to quell Dustin's exuberance to keep him from bouncing in his seat. As the Bishop stepped to the pulpit to announce the meeting, Dustin found that the seat beside him squeaked if he folded it up and down. The Bishop started to speak. "We would like to welcome everyone to..." Squeak. Squeak. Squeak... The Bishop turned and glared at Dustin, and Dustin . stopped what he was doing and smiled back. The Bishop turned and started to speak again. "We would like to welcome everyone to..." Squeak. Squeak. Squeak... The Bishop stopped and went back to Dustin and whispered something to him. Dustin nodded and the Bishop stepped to the pulpit again. As the Bishop spoke the squeaking started again, only much slower and quieter. The Bishop hurried through the announcements and returned to his seat for another stern discussion with Dustin. Finally it was time for the sacrament, and The Bishop quietly pointed out to Dustin what the boys were doing. I was pleased with how quiet Dustin was as he seemed to be soaking ft all in. When the sacrament ended, the Bishop once more stepped to the podium. At that point, Dustin noticed a switch by the Bishop's seat. Just as the Bishop started to speak, Dustin hit the switch. The podium started to rise and kept rising until it reached the top, and only the Bishop's head could be seen behind it. The Bishop strode back to his seat, spoke to Dustin, and pushed the switch the opposite way, towering it to the appropriate height. As he stepped back to the podium, Dustin decided to help out and hit the switch the same.way, lowering the podium until the microphone pointed at the Bishop's belt. The Bishop talked to Dustin once more and fixed the podium height. He had just started speaking again when Dustin hit a different switch, and it suddenly looked as if the Bishop was only mouthing the words as the sound system went dead. The Bishop sighed, stepped back to Dugtin, put one hand on his shoulder, and pointed to us with the other. "Gof" is all he said. Dustin joined us at our pew, and the meeting continued onasjjsual. tray, he started walking to his assigned position, swinging it back and forth as he walked along, whistling a happy tune as loudly as he could. I turned to my wife and smiled. "Well, at least he's happy." tact the credit bureau and request that they correct the information. You can dispute credit bureau errors by writing a letter.
