Traveling in two vans, the group finally arrived at Newport Beach where the girls enjoyed the pleasures of sand, sun and ocean, a welcome change in weather from earlier in the day. On Friday the squad awoke early to practice before heading off to a wonderful day at Disneyland. Saturday morning started with another early morning practice. While the physical elements of the competition require strength and precision, the outward appearance is also important. As such the girls spent the next several hours on hair, makeup, and uniforms. Reporting to the Anaheim Convention Center at 2:00 p.m., the girls stretched, jumped, and warmed-up for their 4:00 p.m. performance. Their routine looked focused, polished, and professional as they took center stage to perform. Participants included: Co-Captains Kiera Oakden and Portia Moore; Seniors, Shelby Berg, Racail Bradshaw, Sharelle Hutchings, Kylie Jensen, Rachel Kartell, and Kalii Waters; Juniors, Rache! Melting, Whitney Oldroyd, Jessica Smith, and Monica Webb; Sophomores, Bailee Black, Shantel Griffiths, Rebecca Kanell, and Taylor Myers; Freshmen, Shyanne Bergstrom and Kalli Gillies. A big thank you to Coaches Shanna Fails and Bobby Broadhead who began preparing the cheerleaders last August for this competition. Their expertise and dedication helped the squad place first at State 2A Cheer Competition as well as qualify for Nationals. Parents and family members also deserve credit for their support of the program during the year. Way to go girls; you are the best! Did You Know?
