Coming off a weekend of play that included opponents Illinois St., Cal St. Bakersfield and Northern Arizona, the Wolverines prepare to play the Slovenian Republic national team Wednesday in preparation for their showdown Friday against the Wolverines from the University of Michigan. Michigan is ranked No. 24 in the country. When asked about the pressure of playing a game like that at home early in the season Sam Atoa responded, "The only pressure in that game is what we put on ourselves. There is no added pressure." Wednesday's game is being dubbed an exhibition, but will serve as a warm-up for the weekend's slate of games that includes matches against perennially good programs Santa Clara, Cal Poly and Michigan. "This isn't the first time we've played a quality opponents," Atoa said. "We played them last year at their place, that's why they are coming here now. We look forward to the opportunity to prove that we can play with teams like them." The Michigan game is just one of a number of higher profile games UVU will play this year. Their schedule includes Cal St Bakersfield, St. Mary's, Syracuse, Kansas St., Boise St. and Utah St. That means they play representatives from the Big Ten, West Coast, Mountain West, Western Athletic, Big Twelve and Big East Conferences on top of being in contention for a Great West Rivalry B1 No more on-campus confusion New signage at UVU will brand the campus better than ever before BY VANESSA PERKINS News Editor After the new UVU signage is put in place, students, faculty and visitors will know exactly what campus they are on. "We're trying to brand our image since becoming a university in 2008," said Mike Maughn, director of campus events. For a few years, UVU has been using signs from the 2002 Winter Olympics which was really only helpful for walking traffic, but the new signs and markers will now serve drivers navigating the campus. The new branding does not only affect the outside of the school, however. New signs inside the school with a two letter building code will help people find their way inside of the school. Other new signs include lighted signs outside and solar powered directories which people on foot will be able to activate by pushing a button that will keep it lit for a couple minutes. "It will give our campus a fresh, unique look, and we'll brand ourselves better than we ever have," Maughn said. Though UVU has been talking about new branding around campus for a long time, a company from Michigan, Corbin Design, proposed the ideas in place today. Corbin Design is a wayfinding , finding your way, and environmental graphic design firm which came up with the new zoning and signage concepts. "Corbin's philosophy is simple," Maughn said. "It's about getting people where they need to go." Corbin originally came to UVU in August 2010 and immediately saw a need for wayfinding. They were encouraged by the consistency of the look and architecture of UVU and wanted to use a system that would coincide with UVU as a whole. They presented several ideas to the President's cabinet, all with the common theme of making UVU territory clear. Currently, temporary signage is in place around campus until all the new signs are put it. The goal is to have them all up by the start of the school year, but the final deadline is the end of September. "Change is a sign of growth. This is monumental," Maughn said. "People that come to a concert or a high school event will know they are on UVU campus, and we've never had that before."
