In the end, however, it seems like most of them say the same thing: swear off credit card debt, invest in some kind of acronym and go into real estate. Unfortunately, my instinct is to stare longingly at credit cards, be scared of stock markets and despise real estate — but I am starting to understand the real message behind these tips: don't spend money you don't have, invest in something that will pay you back, and understand the difference between what you pay for something and how much it is actually worth. During the next few months, instead of crying myself to sleep in a pile of bills and bank statements, I have made it a goal to learn about money management. Much to my dismay, money management is not something that comes naturally once you are considered an adult, and it is not something schools take a great responsibility of teaching. So, while some are endowed with the financial know-how of an economics buff, I have almost no intuition when it comes to cash and must seek help.
