If you find something you would like clarified or find unfair, please contact the editor at l.schmitz@ Quiet deeds mean the most I 'm not sure if it's entirely appropriate to talk about my coworkers in a platform such as this, but I'm going to anyway. Sometimes stories just need to be told. Hopefully you are aware that there is a lot of snow on the ground. Much of that snow fell on Thursday night, the same evening the Runnin' Utes took on UCLA at the Huntsman Center. As the men's basketball beat writer for this paper, I had to be at the game. It's my daily custom to take public transportation to and from school and Thursday was no different. Problem: The last TRAX train leaves the Huntsman Center at mos p.m. on weekdays and I wasn't able to finish my recap of the game in time to make the train, leaving me certifiably stuck on campus. Solution: Our office is not the chronicle.utah.edu. The Daily Utah Chronicle is an independent student newspaper published daily Monday through Friday during Fall and Spring Semesters (excluding test weeks and holidays). Chronicle editors and staff are solely responsible for the newspaper's content. Funding comes from advertising revenues and a dedicated student fee administered by the Publications Council. To respond with questions, comments or complaints, call 801-581-7041 or visit www.dailyutahchronicle.com. The Chronicle is distributed free of charge, limit one copy per reader. Additional copies of the paper may be made available upon request. No person, without expressed permission of The Chronicle, may take more than one copy of any Chronicle issue. It's been said that integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching. I think I'm pretty safe in arguing that trying to help people is always the right thing to do. Except for the two people I spotted randomly roaming around campus Thursday night as my coworker pushed me through the snow to his car, nobody saw the sacrifice he made to give me a ride home. Similarly, nobody except me saw the text I received from my other coworker on Friday asking if I needed a push. Neither person made an announcement that they were trying to help someone. They just did it, even when no one was watching. r.mcdonald@ chronicle.utah.edu Twitter: @ryanwmcdonald 15 42 leader to Uganda's 20 Helpers: Abbr. 25 Author Blume 6 17 Border collie, for so At golf ball 23 5 No 1210 Corp. money Prepare to drive a 51 Milton 22 Clijsters of tennis 4 14 one Being risked 18 One of seven in 3 23 managers 15 Boundless enthusiasm Edited by Will Shortz a Disney film CBS forensic drama worst place in the world to crash at night, so I proceeded to make my way from the Huntsman Center to the Union for a muchneeded night's sleep. Second problem: Snow often makes travel by wheelchair a difficult task. Thankfully, there was a way around that too, as some of my coworkers burn the midnight oil Sunday through Thursday to produce this paper. I called one coworker and asked if he could run up to the Huntsman Center and push me down to the Union. That favor would have been Horoscopes 2 26 Asst. Sports Editor great in and of itself, but this coworker didn't just do that. He offered to give me a ride home. A commute that is typically 25 minutes was 90 that night, but we made it safely. The willingness from coworkers to help me didn't stop there. Knowing we both have class in the same area on Fridays, another coworker texted me Friday morning to see if I needed help pushing through the snow. I had made the decision not to come to campus because of the crappy conditions, but her gesture was greatly appreciated. As thankful as I was for my coworkers' willingness to help me, the most valuable part of the experience for myself was that I learned a lot about myself. I realized that I mean well in usually trying to treat people nicely, but that talk is a lot cheaper than action.
