Show Volume XXIX Issue XI The Ogden Valley News Page 5 September 15, 2022 Bluebird Nest Box Cleanout Wasatch Audubon Society will lead a service trip to clean out bluebird nest boxes on Saturday, September 24. Come and help prepare the boxes for next year’s nesting season. This is very important as the birds will not use old nests. Mountain Bluebirds, as well as Tree Swallows and House Wrens, use the trail of bluebird boxes that Wasatch Audubon maintains on Monte Cristo. The beautiful powder-blue Mountain Bluebird is a cavity nester that depends on bluebird boxes since natural nest sites like woodpecker holes are limited. Some of these “bluest of the bluebirds” may still be in area. Meet in Ogden at Smith’s (12th and Harrison) at 8:00 a.m. or at Chris’ in Huntsville (Rte. 39 and Trapper’s Loop Rd.) at 8:20 a.m. Wear hiking shoes and bring binoculars, lunch, and water. This is an off-trail hike with some elevation. You need no skills, just Mountain Bluebird, Photo by USFWS enthusiasm. For questions, Mountain Prairie. contact John Bellmon (801-444-3704). The Chordette’s have already started rehearsals for their 2022 Christmas concerts. Mark your calendars for December 4th & 5th for this year’s annual Chordette Christmas Program. The Chordette’s is a women’s choir compromised of ladies of all ages who are from, or once lived in, Ogden Valley. This will be the Chordette’s 41st year performing and bringing Christmas cheer to the community! This year’s theme is “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree!” The Chordette’s are changing things up by bringing a little more jazz into their program. Get ready for a swinging time but, of course, there will also be traditional carols and music to round things out. Because of the popularity and large attendance by the community at the Chordette concerts, the Chordette’s are adding a second performance this year on Sunday, December 4. More information to come on performance times as we draw closer to the month of December. Another big announcement this year is the retirement of our amazing accompanist, Joyce Montgomery. Joyce has been with the Chordettes since its inception in 1981. The Chordettes would like to thank her for the excellent musicianship, commitment, and devotion she has brought to every rehearsal and performance through the years. At almost 91 years of age, this year she will be able to enjoy the Chordette’s performances from the audience! We would like to welcome Chantelle Knudson as our new accompanist. We know she will also be a great asset to the group. If you are interested in joining the Chordette’s, please contact Kay Kilgore at 801458-7058.
