Show For Safety's Sake , Wat eh That Ghost Trick or treat." Those three words will be repeated often next Frida v night. It's Halloween! Few events, save Christmas, can generate the energy and enthusiasm among youngsters, and many of their parents, as does Oct. 31. It's been that way since All Saints Day was established back in the 700s. But Halloween is also one of the most dangerous nights of the year. Some 10 more accidents occur in Salt Lake City on Oct. 31 than on other autumn evenings. Similar increases occur elsewhere. Salt Lake City police traffic division records from last year show 32 accidents on Halloween night. The night before had 22, the r. ght after had 24. Other years show the same general trend. Reasons for the greater number of accidents on trick or treat night are. according to traffic division chief Captain Donald B. Pearson, greater general activity, more young children than usual out near roads, costume clothing which obstructs full visibility, darker clothing, enthusiasm leading to negligence. SAFETY TIPS Capt. Pearson lists aids to better safety: Wear cap or something light. If costume is dark, pin on luminous ribbons or cloth ing. Make certain masks or clothing permit full visibility.
