"Some people have asked why the Division of Expositions should sponsor such entertainment for the fair," director Hugh C. Bringhurst said today in outlining plans for fair. and "If it was a success It was last year why not go route?" he the explained. said the fair Bringhurst board will spend approximately $65,000 for entertainment for this year's fair, compared with $60,000 last year and 12-2- same $130,000 in 1967. He said paid attendance at the fair was up "more than 20,000" last year over 1967. "Ice Capades," another ice show which has presented shows in Salt Lake City in the past, is scheduled for performances Nov. at the Salt Palace. For both "Ice Capades" and "Holiday on Ice," Salt Palace facilities will be rented. The Salt Lake Count y Civic Auditorium Board is not underwriting either show. Tickets purchased for the Ice show during the State Fair will also admit spectators to fair events, Bringhurst said. Other attractions at the fair will include G, Ale Ben, television star, who is a bear; the Cowsills, a family singing the "Congregation," group, singers who will appear with the Baja Marimba Band, the Chieftones, an Indian group; magician Mark Wilson, and Dave Merrifield, a stunt man who .performs under a helicopter. 18-2- 3 Enforcement Tips For Liquor Council Continued from Page B-- 1 to the council, and then acted as a chairman uf the meeting and asked leading questions of his staff. He did say that the Advisory Council is not an administrative body, but an investigatory and advisory one. He made a special point of telling the council to "avoid reflection of political bias." The governor asked Atty. Gen. Romney to advise the council. SECONDS WARNING Romney seconded Rampton's warning on the bad image of the vigilante, and said the council should speak when it speaks as one voice, after meeting as a unit and giving careful consideration to their problem. Barlow was asked to speak and be said by Rampton, there are more experts on liquor in the state of Utah than anything else. "No there are not." Ramp-to- n interrupted. "There are more experts on fish and cil ,i '11,s."..ifj' eikoz, ;, :' ....'"4 .t," .:: ::: , .,' i.-,- :111: ail Continued from rage B-- 1 the 13 Democrats among Western chief executives. Also on the first day, Finch Avill spearhead discussions of Medicare. Medicaid, welfare residency requirements and income maintenance as the second part of the human resources seminar. Agnew N'ill also he featured on the first day as kickoff speaker for the conference, chairmanned by r: ON'. Daniel J. Evans of Washington. The vice presiCent Nvill also attend several other conference sessions before departing for Washington. D.C. nickel moves into the spotlight Wednesday, when he will be a key figure in the discussions of ratural resources, under the overall direction of Gov. Tom McCall of Oregon. Boe is expected to he on band during the entire conference to help governors work out the best vays to coordinate state efforts with federal programs in a variety of areas. Tuesday's sessions will ter on transportation and Rev. Wilkie Mr. Sorenson gaiae propagation state." in this Barlow said the men and women of the last Legislature certainly weren't cowards when they faced the mandate of the people on the new liquor laws. "We owe it to these legislators to keep them informed. These new laws are not the last word," he said, "but the first steps. "The Legislature Is not goirg to turn its back and say, 'We're through now with the liquor laws. Live with them.' " he said. pub- lic safety with Gov. Ronald Reagan of California as chair- man of the seminar discus- sions. Rampton. who is expected to be elected as chairman of the Western Governors' Con. will leave ference for Utah Sunday for Seattle and return Wednesday, one day before the conference ends. The Utah governor leaves Thursday for a tour of Europe which will keep him out of the state until August 11. Governors of Utah. Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon and California will attend the Seattle 6essions. 1969-70- LINE Pace spoke next. He said the council will get more criticism than prals e. for its work. "Liquor can be one of the major problems in this state. It has been the last two or three years," he said. "The liquor laws for many s." Pace continued. y "have been 'sacred acts." untouchable. The authority for enforcing the old liquor laws was virtually destroyed and new ones were necessary. BREAK CHAIN "Take a good lookat the new laws." Pace admonished the council. "We hope to have broken the chain of inactivity on Pquor and now perhaps we can change as conditions tar require." The governor then pressed Cook, chairman of the Liquor Commission, for an report on the status of Private clubs in Utah which have applied for new liquor licanses. Cook said 40 applications have been processed and wait the okay of their bonds by the secretary of state and an okay from the attorney general. NOT MANDATORY Rampton worked away at one point with precise questions of Cook. These referred to vhether a private club must submit with its application a certificate of tax exenintion from the U.S. In!ernal Revenue Service. The answer was that the IRS' exemption was not a mandatory requirement of an applicant, but that the absence of one in a club's application would certainly carry weight. Cook said also it is now apparent that some of the applicants are having a difficult time getting the consent of the iccal political authorities for their clubs, since some of Clem have not enclo-e- d this consent with their applicat:on, appprently hoping to send it non-prof- it cen- tion Board. The plans were reviewed this week by the board at its monthly meeting held at Meadow Brook Golf Course in Taylorsville. Originally costs for the proposed structure was estimated at $120,000 but board members said some minor changes should be made so the cost could be reduced. All but the swimming in the recreation's summer program are through and the swimming pooL will remain open bad weather closes until them, Gary Swenson, recreation director, said. Board members were Informed the Senior Citizens Club is attempting to get a bus for various trips they go on each year. They are seeking saving stamps and any donations persons might give for this purpose. Swensen said the bus would be used for local trips and parties, but larger buses would be leased or rented for long journeys. Reports from each of the county's three golf courses show that revenue taken in .thus far this year exceeds that of last year except at one course. At Mountain View is S95.n38 (Si G17); TPVPIIIIP Mick Riley $24.312 ($24.384): and Meadow Brook $42.180 ($39.898). Figures in brackets are for 1968 revenue. Golfers were urged to express their feelings about raising the golfing fees at the courses from $1 for nine holes to $1.25 and a similar raise for 18 holes. Utahn Dies In Rollover E S T YELLOWSTON'E, A Sunset, Utah, MONT. youth, employed at Yellowstone National Park this summer, was thrown from his car and killed thursday nine miles north of here.
