The decade stretching from 1970 to 1979 will bring with it great changes in the way we livt. play and do business. This is tlw first of four articles on what tt-.will be and changes what they wi!; mean. By 1980, you'll be making more money (and have more to spend on luxuries) and producing more at your job thanks to automation and improved techniques. Families will be smaller but there'll be more of them. A fourth of the nation's adults will be college trained and will earn about of the nation's income. two-fift- Half the country's workers will be in white collar jobs; a larger percentage of the population will live in the suburbs and nearly 70 per cent of all families will own their homes. The fastest growing segment of business will be radio, television and records. These are some of the predictions of Fabian Linden, manager of the consumer economics department, National Industrial Conference Board, New York. r , To Assist Planners The predictions are published in a booklet, "The Consumer of the Seventies," sponsored by the board and by Time Inc. The predictions are not intended to be precise but should serve as guides for broad business planning through the seventies. The four per cent annual increase in the U.S. economy should become 4.4 per cent in the seveties. "By 1980 this will add up to a total output of goods and services of $1.5 trillion, for a real in-crease of 55 per cent in those ten years," the re- - n: , port says. As the war babies come into the labor market early in the seventies, the labor force will expand - t U.S. POPULATION AND GROWTH RATE 2.0 1 9, 200 ag .5 a. 1 I II 8 62 t 150 8 Bo S 11' TOTAL '111 i I at los tW POPULA,TIOH. 2 0 ts! 1 1.0 -; 19 469 255 Allis Chalm 1.80 Alcoa Amerad Hss Am Airl .80 Am Brands 2 A Brcst 1.60 Am Can 2.20 Am Cyan 11'4 AmE lec 1.58 Arr Export A Home 1.40 AmHosS .22 45 99 30 1912 154 b : 1945 1950 1960 1953 1970 1965 i975 ro.s 19ii at a record rate, then taper off.
