Show DESERET T8 A NEWS, Monday, April 21, 1969 r State To Curtail St. Mark's Applies For Hospital Zoning Two zoning applications, one for commercial and one for residential which would allow construction of a high-ris- e building between 11th and 13th East on 39th South, have been taken under advisement by the Salt Lake County Commission. St. Marks Hospital has requested permission to construct a $i2 million hospital at the 39th South location. The hospital has asked the commission to rezone the aea to R5. The R-from would allow construction of a hospital and related facilities. The present classification limits construction to 2.5 stories. CONVERT CLIB Commissioners also heard a request from Rex Nowell, who owns two acres on the southeast corner of 39th South at 11th East. Nowell has requested a zoning change from R-to C--l, allowing him to n convert the Club, 114C E. 34th South, to a family-typ- e R-2- 5 six-stor- y St. Marks Hospital, 203 N. 2nd West, said more than 40 prospective sites were surveyed before the 39th location was chosen. Plans call for a new facility. WORK TO START If the zoning application is approved, hospital construction will begin in the fall or next spring and may be completed in two years. Architects are Kaplan and McLaughlin, San Francisco. Delays in construction add un estimated $10,000 monthly to build'ng costs, the hospital has told county planners. St. Maik's Hospital officials have not indicated so far what u ould be done with its present facility on 2nd West. It was built in 1892. Construction of the hospital may be affected by the proposed East Valley Freeway, which, as origmaly proposed in 1965, would be located near the hospital site. 260-be- d 303-be- d NO FUNDS 5 Bel-Co- restaurant. In a letter to the County Commission, planning commissioners suggested that Nowell be asked to sell his 2.5 acres to the hospital instead of establishing a restaurant at that location. Thomas J.
