Mission. He will enter the MTC on September 21, 1988. Elder Colby is a 1 986 graduate of North Sevier High School. He was active in sports and FFA. He attended one year at Southern Utah State College and one year at Snow Family , Sept. 17 Utahns will get practical answers to family problems at the first Utah Conference on Strengthening the Family, Saturday, September 17, at Cottonwood High, 5715 South 1300 East, from 8 a.m. to.4 p.m. The conference is open to the public. Fee is $ 10 for the first family member, and $5 for each addition family member up to $20. The fee also covers the cost of lunch. Abigail Van Buren, better known as .Dear Abby will be the Richard Eyre, keynote speaker. Former Chairman of the White House Conference on CHildren and Families and his wife, will be guest speakers. Workshop topics include: how to improve discipline and structure; helping children do better in school; relationimproving parent-chil- d ships; reducing family stress; family economics; strengthening communications; preventing substance abuse; family mental health; creating quality time with dad; the single parent challenge; survival skills for parents of teenagers; family councils; reunions; and marriage enrichment. The bride is the daughter of Dr. Richard C. Layton and the late Donna Layton. The groom is the son of Margaret Kay Christensen and Leon P. Christensen. Brenda attended Weber State and the University of Utah. She is working toward a degree in Nutrition. Clay fulfilled a mission to Brazil. Young, son of Marion D. and Beverly Young of Utah, has completed training in May-fiel- d, fundamental military skills at the Army ROTC Camp Challenge at Fort Knox, Ky. Camp Challenge is designed to give college Juniors and Sophomores who have not taken ROTC courses the chance to enter the program. The camp also qualifies high school graduates for the ROTC program at any of the nations six military junior colleges. During the encampment, cadets received training in basic rifle marksmanship, military drill and ceremonies, communications and individual and small unit tactics. Shields, son of LeRoy G. and Hayda M. Shields, Salina, has completed the basic field artillery cannoneer course at Fort Sill, OK. A general priesthood session will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. President Ezra Taft Benson, world leader of the church, will preside at the conference and will be assisted by counselors President Gordon B. Sevier Valley Tech names new staff in Nursing Sevier Valley Tech Area Vocational Center recently filled vacancies in the Licensed Practical Nursing Program by hiring a new director and instructor. The new Director of Nursing is Char Lusher, who has currently been the Director of Behavioral Medicine at Sevier Valley Hospital. She also served as Education Coordinator there. Prior to her position with the hospital she was assistant administrator of student health services for the South Dakota State University. Char has earned a bachelors degree in nursing and masters degree in mental health counseling. She is currently a doctoral candidate in clinical psychology at St. Johns University in Louisiana. Austin, who serves as supervisor of the Utah State University extensions ten county Southwest District, from his Richfield office, received the award last month at the associations meeting in Charlotte, NC. He was honored for his service to the livestock industry. The award citation said Austin has helped increase livestock producer profits in the area through performance testing, marketing programs and encouraging the use of implants. Morris.
