June 22. 1988 The Salina Sun Axtell News Rilla Dee Sorenson Joan and Doug Gillies traveled to West Valley City Sunday to enjoy Fathers Day Dinner with their daughter Shannon and her Husband Loren Wadstein. The YOung Women of the Ward had a Fathers Day activity day last week. They took orders for and made FAthers Day Posters which they delivered late Saturday evening. The posters bearing Fathers Day greetings and wishes were on a stake and posted in the front lawn to surprise the fathers. Nancy Bertelsen returned Saturday from the campus of SUSC in Cedar City where she had spent an enjoyable week at Girls State learning first hand how the government Her mother Arva Lee operates. Bertelsen and sister Debra Humphrey arid niece Mandi along with brother Kirby traveled to Cedar City Friday to attend the Girls State Graduation and bring her home. They stayed' overnight with Arva Lees cousin Razelle and her husband Aaron Robinson of Cedar City. LaPreal Olsen traveled to Blanding on the weekend to take grandson Jared Stevenson back home. Jared is the son of Connie and Rusty Stevenson and he had spent a few weeks here visiting with grandparents Rex and LaPreal Olsen and LaRue and Arlo Kump of Gunnison. Rex and LaPreal entertained all of their grandsons at their home for a few days while Jared was here. Marshall Sorenson and his boys of Salt Lake visited with his father El wood and Julia Sorenson for a few days this past week helping out in the hay. The boys also enjoyed a trip to the canyon with their grandparents Lester and Helen Hill of Gunnison. Kevin and Trudy Despain and Aleisha were the Sacrament Meeting speakers Sunday. Stacie Buckland was the youth speaker. Trudys sister, Denise and husband Steve Pieroo and family were on hand to enjoy the Their twin daughters program. Angie and Amber each played and sang a primary song as part of the program. They all enjoyed Fathers - 528-794- 8 Day together with parents Dennis and Kathy Patterson. Marius Despain spent a few days in Utah Valley Hospital following an accident on Friday. We wish him a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mcllor of Lehi visited Saturday with Mrs. Fern Mcllor. Adam and Brandon Moore of Orem visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mellor, their son Kurt spent the weekend with them and Sunday John and Karen Moore Lynn and Rilla Dee Sorenson traveled to Bountiful Sunday to see the newest addition to their family. Husbands were invited to attend the Relief Society Work Meeting T uesday evening along w ith their wives. Special mini class for the evening was conducted by Lorie Despain Beck of Centerfield on 72 hour emergency packs. The lesson was given by Judy Buckland on Emergency Preparedness and refreshments were served by Phyllis Cowley, Kaye Despain and Judy Buckland. Miles and LaPreal Jensen enjoyed getting away for a few days in their camper visiting areas in the southern part of the state recently Donna Vee and Leland Sorenson and son Steve and his wife Pat and family of Kanosh were in Redmond Saturday for the 0th birthday celebration for Donna Vees mother Veda Jensen. All of Donna Vee brothers and sisters and most of their families were here for this special day. Coming from Ogden were Beverly and Jim Markos and their sons and families one from Georgia and one from Wyoming. Doris and Wallace Caldwell came from California and one of their daughters and her family from Arizona. Redmond News This past weekend has been a fun time for Mary and Whitney Christensen. Fourteen family members came home for a steak fry at their cabin at Accord Lakes. Those present were Leon, Nayna and their sons Mark, Bryan and Bryants wife Tammy and son Tyson. Pauls wife Pauline and daughter Annette all from West Valley City and another daughter Julie and her son Chance, from Winnemucca Nev. Boyd and Patty joined the group also. 1 Zeke and Dani S usman are spending two weeks in Clararement California and acting as camp counselors for a group of younger children. Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Ashman spent Fathers Day in SaltLake City with their children and grandchildren. They were also at the airport to see their grandson, Clay Christensen, off on a months cruise with the Protuguese Navy. He was happy to be chosen for this cruise because he speaks Protuguese. His home base will be the U.S. Embassy in Lisborn. Her husband, Mark, is in Dallas, Texas for a 10 week training course for his job with Electronic Data System where he is a computer programmer. Upon his return from Dallas, they will be going back to California, where they have been living in Yuba City, but will be relocating to the San Francisco Bay area. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Porter were of baptized and confirmed a member evening, the LDS Church, Saturday June 18, in services held at the Salina Stake Center. The Porters were baptized by their son in law, Jerry McCullogh and confirmed by Jay Christensen. Connie Cox is visiting in California with friends and looking for work. Last Tuesday Marge Mellor and Jennifer Mellor took 11 young women and headed for Sundance, they stopped at Timpanogas to see the cave, then they went on to Sundance where they stayed over night in a nice cabin and enjoyed an outdoor theatre. On there way home they played in the water slides in Orem. Any ladies, young or old, that would like to join the softball team, please contact either Julie and Anna Hammond. Milton and Ruby Hammond held their family reunion over the weekend. Helping out with the get together were, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Tree and children; Mr. and Mrs. Stacey Hammond and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Errol Hammond and son Kevin and daughter Erolyn of Deer Lodge, Montana. President Arno Bastian, Salina Stake President presided over the dedications services and offered both the dedicatory Prayers. A combined Choir from both wards provided the music and lovely songs. Many members from both wards were in attendance to this very special occasion. Cami Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerold Johnson and Brent Hales, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Hales returned home this past week from their church history trip back east. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lawercnce Hourihans this past week have been Mr. and Mrs. McGinness and JoEllen Adams all of Fallon, Nevada. A great Big welcome home goes out to Jessie Thompson, who was hospitalized in the Utah Valley Hospital in Provo and her brother Brogan Thompson, who was hospitalized in the Primary Childrens hospital in SaltLake City after a very serious Auto Accident. They are both doing well and we are very glad to have them back among us. Their Father, David Thompson is still in the Utah Valley Hospital recovering from the accident Mr. and Mrs. Royce Mason and family and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Lewis and boys family enjoyed a fun vacation recently to Yellowstone National Park. Mr. and Mrs. Ward Forsyth traveled to Brigham City over the weekend to visit and get acquainted with their newest grandchild, a granddaughter, infant daughter of Chris and Natalie Forysth. The Shaw Family reunion was held at the Aurora City Park on Saturday, June 18th. It was a very fun afternoon for all the family members attending. Robby Forsyth, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ward Forsyth returned home after spending a week at Boys State at Weber State College in Ogden. Jennifer Kjar, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kjar, Heather Mason , daughter of Heather Mason and Rebecca Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Johnson all attended Girls State on the campus of Southern Utah State College in CedarCity. The missionary farewell of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hcagle will be held this Sunday, June 26th at9:00 in the Aurora 2nd Ward a.m. Church. The Hcagles were called to serve in the Philippines Quezon City LDS Mission Field and will enter the MTC in Provo on June 29th. In the Aurora 1st Ward, Troy Shaw, son of Bishop and Mrs. Devon Shaw w'ill have his missionary Farewell on Sunday , June 26th at 1:00 p.m. in the Aurora 1st ward church. Troy will be serving a mission in the St. Louis, Missouri LDS Mission Field.
