April 27. 1988 The Salina Sun The Gunnison Valley News v , Accent on people Cody Merchant at National Contest Auditions for Children's Theatre production set Auditions for the Missoula Childrens Theatre production of Johnny Appleseed will be held on Monday, May 2, at 3:30 p.m. at the Richfield High School Gym. Students Kindergarten through 12th grades arc encouraged to audition for the 50 parts that will be cast. The parts of Johnny Appleseed and Grampa will be played by MCT tour directors Michael Shooncr and John Junciman. Cody Merchant, son of Mr. and of Johnny Appleseed are set at 7:30 Friday, May 6, and Saturday, May 7, at Performances Mrs. Johnny Merchant, of Salina, participated in the 14th Annual TAEKWONDO U.S. Nationals, held in Miami, Florida, April 14, 15, and 16. Cody had won 3rd place in Utah in his division, which entitled him to participate in the Nationals - a step towards the Olympics to be held in Seoul, Korea later this summer. Cody is a 16 year old Sophomore at North Sevier High. There were 120 contestants in the Lightweight Division. Cody wants to continue his Richfield High. Ticket prices are S3 for adults, and $1.50 for students; and SI discount will be given all Music Guild season ticket patrons who arc sponsoring this production. The Icebreaker Tournament will be held April 30. Entry fee is $5, which includes breakfast. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. with tec time at 8 a.m. The membership fee for the association is set at $10. Contact any of the following officers: Bob Jensen, Manti; Eddie Johnson, Mt. The conference will be held at the Western Executive Inn, May 7. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. with the program beginning at 10 a.m. Speakers include Dr. Susan Cottier, Westminster College; Dr. Mauricio Mixco, University of Utah; Bruce Plenck, Salt Lake attorney; Louis Quackenbush and Dr. Russell Cluff, both of BYU. The purpose of the program is to get beyond the myths and stereotypes to an accurate knowledge of our southern neighbors. The history, traditions and culture of Central America will be explored and compared to those of the United States. Ample time will be presented for questions from the audience. The public is invited. The students, age 15 through 17, will arrive in the U.S. in August of 1988, attend a local high school, and return to their home country in Juneofl989. The students, all fluent English, have been screened by their school representatives in their home countries, have spending money, and medical insurance.
