Show Wednesday March 161991 THE RICHFIELD REAPER 9 A Golf Ice Breaker Sportsmens' Tip Nabs California Elk Poachers Tourney Slated Personalized Plates Give Clue Alert Sevier County hunters who decided to get involved were instrumental in nabbing two California elk poachers Last fall during the rifle deer hunt a hunting party from Sevier County came across two other hunters who acted nervous gave conflicting answers to simple questions and left the area in a hurry Two weeks later the Sevier County hunting party was in the same area and found a decomposing four-poi- bull elk The Sevier nt o together sportsmen put and decided the nervous hunters on the deer hunt were elk poaching suspects The sportsmen called a Department of Wildlife Resources conservation officer and related the story to him with another interesting piece of information They thought they could remember the personalized license plate of the nervous hunters A computer check yielded a license plate and the owners name Another computer check showed the owner had purchased a Utah hunting license two-and-tw- The wheels of justice sometimes turn slowly but eventually a California game warden knocked on this hunter's door in Southern California You guessed it! He acted nervous gave conflicting answers to simple questions and acted like he wanted to end the conversation quickly But he did give the California officer the name of his hunting companion When the companion was interviewed he was nervous but confessed to killing the elk and leaving it to rot on Forshic Mountain Both California hunters have been charged with wasting wildlife and one faces an additional charge of killing an elk illegally The Cove View Men's Golf Association will sponsor an Ice Breaker golf tournament at noon March 26 Using a scramble format handicaps will be assigned with teams drawn by lot A low handicap player will be assigned to each team Early signups arc encouraged to assist team assignments Entry fee is S20 Included in the event will be contests for putting long drive closest to the pin on 2 closest to the pin on 5 and the most accurate drive There will be extra prizes and a non-inner draw ing The tournament is open to everyone "We encourage everyone to come out and help us get an early start on the golf season" said association president Mike Langston Reaper Scoreboard Tri-Cit- y (Thursday Night Men's) Jorgensen's Lancs Max Albrecht Ins Dinosaur Printing White's Cust Meats White's Trucking 179 175 175 1615 1575 211 215 215 2285 232 Individual Game: Kyp 233 men Joann Nay Rcnon Reed Barbara White 210 women Hdcp Kyp Shaw 253 men Joann Nay 242 women High Individual Scries: Scr Lloyd Dickinson 610 men Barbara White 595 women Hdcp Lloyd Dickinson 649 men Barbara White 688 women 200 Games: Bob Burrell 200 Joann Nay 210 Don Olsen 225 Rick Farnsworth 208 Shannon Heaps 211 Rcnon Reed 210 Gene Reed 2(X) Gerry Hunt 206 Kyp Shaw 233 Barbara White 210 Darvin White 209 Lloyd Dickinson 216201 Allen Robins 212 High Shaw High Individual Game: Scr George Sarkis 240 Hdcp Karstcn Toomcr 292 High Individual Scries: Scr Keith Newby 649 lldcp Ross Parelli Proteges Jodi Morrell and her horse Tezzero will host a Parelli Arena Horse-Man-Shi- clinic March p 25-2- 6 two-da- y Morrison 786 200 Games: Bart Lee 203 214 Russ Okcrlund 218 220 204 Tip Toblcr 200 Dave Barney 201 John Brcdsguard 228 212 Roger Barney 214 Brad Syddall 202 Pat Karstcn Toomcr 201 George Sarkis 240 203 Klyc Jacobsen 212 Darvin White 223 Rick Farnsworth 223 Troy Olsen 206236 Gopher Jensen 224 Joe at the Blackhawk Clinic Horse-Man-Shi- p Set At Blackhawk Arena throughout Utah now boast 385 By Bill McClure Sports Editor SALINA — Jodi Morrell of Central and her horse Tezzero will a Pat Parelli host March 25-2- 6 Natural Horse-Man-Sh- clinic at ip the Blackhaw k Arena here instructor Lee Cooper Smith will conduct the two Parclli-ccrtific- d day clinic teaching basic horsemanship skills and fundamentals The Parelli method of working with horses has gained international notice and is extremely popular in Utah In fact Parelli last fall moved his headquarters from California to Delta Utah Parelli students arc grouped into corrals with a minimum of 10 members Late last summer there was just one corral in the state and that one was at Delta Corrals members The Sevier Valley corral called EZA for Equine Sensible Approach was formed last October and has 50 members One reason for the local popularity were the results achieved by n Morrell and Tczzcro for a feisty personality Morrell was just about to get rid of Tezzero when a friend convinced her to try the Parelli method Before long she was riding Tezzero around Central Valley with no bridle just a halter and a lead rope That turned a lot of heads among those who knew Tczzcro’s disposition For more information on the or Pat clinic call Jodi at 896-468- 0 Thomas at showing class placement name won lost and percentage CLASS A -
