Councilmen whose terms are expiring are Leslie Madsen, Phil Anderson and Claire Erickson. Republicans named were Keith Beazer, Dr. Donald C. Dobson and Ralph Lund. Democratic candidates will be Dr. Valden Francks, Janice H. Giunta and Clinton Justeson. Although Mr. Beazer is relatively new in Ephraim, he is known as a contributing member of the community. He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, where he grew up, graduating from elementary and high school there. While he was at home, he worked with his father in the building contracting business, and worked summers while he attended Brigham Young University. He graduated from that school with a degree in the field of business. He has spent his time since graduating in the manufacturing world: eight years with Snarr Advertising in Salt Lake City; six years self employed at Beazer Manufacturing in Clearfield. Utah. He came to Ephraim in 1973 as manager of the sheet-metoperation at the L&M Trailer Manufacturing Company, where he is presently employed. Mr. Beazer is married to Shirley Oswald Beazer, also from Idaho Falls. They are the parents of seven children. Having been active in church and civic affairs wherever he has lived, he Dr. Valden Francks was born in Elsinore, Utah and moved to Ephraim when three years old. He has been a resident of Ephraim ever since. He graduated from Colorado State University with a doctorate in veterinary medicine. He has practiced in Ephraim since his graduation in 1962. Janice H. Giunta, a wife and mother, has served as chairman of the Master Planning Commission and chairman of the Ephraim Beautification Committee. She is employed part time at Snow College as the director of the Learning Assistance Center. She holds a masters degree as a reading specialist. She has also held offices in several civic clubs and has been active in the Democratic party. beautification committees. He grew up on a farm in Central, near Grace, Idaho, and is married to the former Scharlene Neeley of Logan, Utah. They have raised and are raising eleven children. He served with the armed forces during the last years of World War scouting leadership. Republicans Democrats - is now serving as scoutmaster in the Ephraim West Ward, and has given more than 20 years of Clinton Justeson was born and raised in Ephraim, where he attended Snow College. As a farmer he has raised turkeys, sheep and cattle. Ephraim named three candidates for the Dr. Dobson is well known in Ephraim, having moved here in 1960 where he is in charge of the major portion of turkey research in connection with the Utah Agriculiural Experiment Station for Utah. He received his bachelor's degree from Utah State University, was awarded a master's degree at Cornell Universiiv in Ithaca, New York, and came back to Logan where he earned his PhD. II. Ralph Lund is a native of Ephraim, descended from the early settlers, and is well known as a successful farmer and stockman. He spent two years in the Philippine Islands during World War II with the U. S. Army. Ralph knows he business of farming and has built his entire operation from a small beginning. A short program in the new facility was conducted by association president Glen Allred. Mr. Allred said that the opening of the club house was the culmination of several years of effort by many people interested in the furtherance of recreational facilities in Sanpete County. The original committee which started the ball rolling on the golf course included Bob Jensen, ., chairman, Lee R. Thompson, Eugene Overfelt, All Bertie and John LaMont Blackham. Three councilmens terms are expiring: Don Olsen, who was appointed to the council to fill the unexpired term of Ray Keller, Ben Kjar and Evan Johnson. Named as candidates by Democrates were Camille (Mrs. Kent) Larsen, Bryan McArthur and Wesley Mogle. Republicans nominated Don Olsen, David Cox and Robert Bessey. in Ceremonies Open New Club House MANTI Volume 90 Number 14 are the parents of five children. Other officers elected at the Republican Convention in Ephraim, are Robert Stoddard, chairman, to replace John Meade; Ruth Rasmuson, vice chairman, replacing Eva Thompson; Ephraim West Ward: Richard B. Olson, chairman, Don Fotheringham, vice chairman; Ephraim North Ward: Jim Luster, chairman, Eleanor Madsen, vice chairman with Nellie Toone secretary, and South Ward: Evan Reid, chairman. Other secretaries will be selected by chairmen. a Located near Palisade State Park, from which it takes its name, the new golf course is one of the finest in the state and is being played by many golfers from a large area. Pres. Allred said it was a real step forward when you compared the lush gieen course now with the dried up desert it was when the site was first selected. Sanpete County has participated in the development of the course and its facilities, with cooperation from the golf association and matching federal grants. The building committee for the new' club house has included Bob Jensen, Vance Peterson, Lee R. Thompson, Micky Venitelli, Cecil Cox and Cecil Terry. Builder was Micky Venitelli. Constructed at a cost of approximately $75,000 the new facility has a pro shop, snack bar, rest rooms, storage facilities, and a large room to accommodate group dinners and other functions. Golf pro Gary Holman will operate the pro shop and the snack bar, holding concession rights from the county. In the brief opening ceremony, Mr. Allred paid high tribute to the unselfish efforts of those who spearheaded the project, along w'ith praise for Gary Holman and his wife for their enthusiastic support. County commissioners Ned Madsen and ONiel Larsen were present and expressed approval on behalf of the county for the accomplishment of the project. The golf association has raised its share of the necessary matching funds through the sale of advance green fees and association memberships. Two grants, one for $90,000 and one for $44,000 were made for the construction of the course. The association and county were required to raise half this amount to match a federal grant. For the new club house, two grants were also forthcoming, one in the amount of $60,000 and one for $18,000. Again the association and the county raised matching funds. Allred said that the associations share of that amount was nearly taken care of. Allred added that golfers from all over the state as well as many from Sanpete County were enjoying the course and now would enjoy the new club house. renovation similar to that in St. George.
