university declared today in a statement commenting on the resignation of Dr O M W Sprague as special to the secretary of the treasury that the real threato inflation la not In the presentwtfnetary policy of the government “but from the possibility of its failure" "Among the inflationary devices by conentrusted to the president “the gress” said Professor Rogers milder are being used If they do not prove effective the danger is that congress will make mandatory more drastic and even uncontrollable measures In this event it will be upon those who sabotage the present policy that the onus of such a frightful disaster must rest” Professor Rogers who with Protestor George F Warren of Cornell university it one of the principal monetary advisers of President Roosevelt taid the present policy of the govern- ment is "very similar" to that recently pursued “in several of the most enlightened nations of the r world” and that Dr SpragUe's of resignation raised the question of “Why the great commotion?” “What it thi gold policy hailed as panacea in certain circles arid as certain disaster in others?” Rogers asked "Monetary control has been the civilized general throughout world during most of the time since the great war Intelligent control in the United States is for the present necessary and must be exerted “In a word for our own internal lituation the dollar tends to be too strong In the foreign exchange marHence Just as kets of the world recently in France and in England It is being arbitrarily held down and purposely In addition It is being forced down by the purchase of for eign currencies" let-te- In addition Barney F Quinn county charities commissioner is preparing to confer with state relief officials in on effort to obtain approximately $5000 Jo defray
