Team Hill's Key Spouses, commanders, directors and first sergeants are invited to learn more about agencies and resources available to military families. Several speakers will share their experience and expertise. A welcome reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with heavy hor d'ouerves served at 6 p.m. The event is free for all Key Spouses courtesy of the Utah Military Family Foundation. It will start with a 3.1 mile run on the duck pond trail. Participants will then transition in the Arts and Crafts parking lot to bicycle 12.4 miles around the base perimeter road. Then the athletes will swim 2.4 miles in the indoor swimming pool. Jason Wiggins at jason.wiggins@hill.af.mil or by phone at 801-777-9739. 419th Fighter Wing Family Day Sept. 14 The 419th Fighter Wing will honor families of wing Reservists with food and entertainment during Family Day Sept. 14 at Centennial Park from noon to 4 p.m. Activities will include a barbecue lunch, games, bouncy houses, a dunk tank and prizes. Military demonstrations will include security forces, firefighters, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and the base's military working dogs. Children may bring swimsuits and towels, as the park's splash pad will also be open. Representatives from various organizations will be on hand to talk to Reservists and their families, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and TriCare. Hilltop Times editor ill AFB's Hubbard Memorial Golf Course has been selected as the site for the Air Force Golf Championships. Seventeen men and five women, some of the best golfers in the Air Force, will visit the base and exhibit some of their finest play as they compete for a selection to the Air Force team, Sept. 7-10. The Air Force team will go on to compete in the Armed Forces Golf Championship. Last year the Air Force's Men's Golf Team took the championship title for the ninth time and went on to play in the Conseil International du Sport Militaire World Military Golf Championship, so some very competitive play is expected. Hubbard Golf Pro Tony Angelico indicated the golf course will be open Hill AFB Triathlon The Air Force Personnel Center is conducting a feasibility assessment for a NAF construction project to build a new Golf Clubhouse at Hill Air Force Base. The center is looking for public input to improve the quality and level of service, to do so the cornmunity is invited to participate in a survey. The National Guard UH-60 Blackhawk dropped more than 8,500 gallons of water in one day on two separate fires in northern Utah. The "State Fire" started from a lighting strike eight miles west of Portage, Utah. See page 5. celebration for Air Force at Hill BY MARY LOU GORNY Hilltop Times editor H ill AFB will celebrate the 66th birthday of the Air Force, on Sept. 20, with an Air Force Ball. "These events are an important part of our heritage," said Maj. Jason Wiggins, 75th Air Base Wing Command Post, and event chairman. "It's a unique opportunity for Airmen to come together and to pause and reflect on the accomplishments of the past as well as acknowledge that like every generation we have our own challenges." The event to be held in Hangar 37, will include music, a formal dinner, dancing, static displays and a birthday cake. Air Force Sustainment Center Commander Lt. Gen. Bruce Litchfield, will provide keynote remarks. The Army National Guard is providing two bands for the event, one for the opening ceremonies and another to provide popular music the ball.
