Show HILLTOP TIMES 'IME S 11 Nov. 29, 2012 Review: Road movie sorta cute despite weird moments BY STEVE SALLES Standard-Examiner movie critic I t never feels quite right and it rarely happens, but I found myself the only one laughing in a quaint collection of moviegoing strangers one afternoon. We had assembled to witness "Hit & Run," the new Dax Shepard/Kristen Bell action/love/comedy. I was at the screening for work; the rest, I assumed, for a brisk 100 minutes of randy entertainment. Charlie (Shepard) and Annie (Bell) have been a happy couple living in the idyllic, sleepy Central California community of Milton for a year. But now, Annie has an important meeting with her school district boss (Kristin Chenoweth) at which she expects to be laid off. Cute, supportive Charlie is trying to get her into the right frame of mind so she can prepare for any outcome, but neither are prepared for the big opportunity about to be offered. Annie has a chance to head a department at University of California, Northridge, in nonviolent conflict resolution, but Char- New Fitness Center classes N ew classes have been added to the schedule at the center. Charlie is safe in Milton, but fearing he will lose the love of his life, he agrees to drive her — in the beefed-up 1967 Lincoln Continental that Toys for Tots boxes at Exchange Four boxes have been placed at Hill Air Force Base in various AAFES sites for the Marines Toys for Tots Program. Those that are not Licensed FCC Providers should not be permitted to advertise or post notices in installation publications or on bulletin boards. So a road trip ensues, featuring Charlie and Annie in the hot-rod Lincoln, being followed by Gil in his pretend sports car; an inept, trigger-happy U.S. marshal (Tom Arnold) assigned to protect Charlie; and the aforementioned bad guys, including the animal-loving, dreadlock-wearing Alex (Bradley Cooper) and his hot girlfriend (Joy Bryant). There are some odd de- surviving spouses of active duty or retired Air Force members enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Applications will be accepted November 2012 through March 2013 at www. afas.org . partures in the story — one, where a gay county sheriff trolls for potential love interests on the Internet using an app called Pouncer (that was weird). Another, where Alex stops to force-feed dog food to a large black man Alex thinks is mistreating his pet (that was weirder). And a third, featuring a group of seniors having a bunga bunga party in a seedy motel (that was the weirdest). Yet despite all of these distractions, at the core is a cute running dialogue between Charlie and Annie about honesty, trust, stereotypes and homophobic slurs. It's obvious Shepard and Bell are exceedingly comfortable with each other. After all, they are a real life couple. But their refreshing conversations are equally insightful, often amusing and seem based on events this couple may have shared. You should also know the language is racy, the content is racier, but it has such a sweet center that if you can look beyond the distractions, you'll probably have an enjoyable time. If not, skip this and see "Hope Springs" again. It's much tamer. IDEAS can be submitted at httpsv+ipds.csd.disa.mil Gen. Henry H.
