Anna Marie - (801) 737-2803 Team Hill helps families in need throughout local communities BY SENIOR AIRMAN MELISSA DEARSTONE 75th Air Base Wing Public Affairs T he basewide food drive "Lend a Hand, Give a Can," which began Aug. 1, ended Aug. 24 here with an impressive 8,206 pounds of food donated to help local food shelters in the surrounding communities. This year, the Team Hill Junior Force Council (THJ-FC), Ogden Air Logistics Complex Work Force Council and the Contracting Directorate aligned with the 2012 Feds Feed Families initiative to help collect donations around the base. Valentine Sackmann, president of the TH-JFC said that there were 125 barrels placed in 90 different locations throughout the base. "With the donations that were made from Team Hill, it is estimated that our efforts will help feed over 550 families for one entire week," said Sackmann. The donations went to Catholic Community Services, YCC, Ogden Rescue Mission, Tremonton food bank and the Airman's Attic. "The food banks were very low in food and we were able to help increase their inventory so more fami- lies will not go hungry," said Sackmann. Jason Carrion, President of 00ALC Work Force Council, said that this event shows a huge gesture of care from the Hill work force toward the local communities we all live in and love. "This event shows that Hill Air Force Base understands the importance of helping others and giving back to the community, said Sackmann. We all came together to help feed local families in need and we had a fun time doing so." Sackmann said that there were many creative tactics that employees around Hill thought of to increase donations in their areas while having fun. "One office cooked Sloppy Joes for lunch and whoever brought in five canned goods could eat for free," said Sackmann. "Another unit brought in donuts and whoever donated items, would get a free donut." This event is not the only time and way one can donate to local shelters. Throughout the year, shelters take in non-perishable food items to help feed the local families that are in need.
