Show HILLTOP TIMES As this story goes, young Barnabas and his wealthy family come to America from Liverpool in 1760 to settle in the new frontier, opening a fishing business in what eventually becomes Collinsport, Maine. They build a massive hilltop estate appropriately named Collinswood, from which they will rule over their new empire. So far so good. Following the untimely death of his parents, Barnabas grows into a respectable businessman who falls for the lovely Josette (Bella Heathcote) — which, of course, riles Angelique, who sends Josette over a cliff and turns Barnabas into a vampire. Standard-Examiner movie critic I n a word, "Dark Shadows" is a mess. It suffers from personality disorder, can't decide if it wants to be campy or cruel, and nothing is resolved. Sure, Johnny Depp is his usual quirky, clever self — but it isn't enough, not by a long shot. Any resemblance to the original "Dark Shadows" TV series quickly evaporates into a bizarre cat-and-mouse game between vampire Barnabas Collins (Depp) and witch Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green), who professes to love him. Once Angelique is assured Barnabas will never return her advances, she has the locals lock him in an iron coffin and bury him next to a future Mc-Donald's. Two centuries later, Barnabas is awakened, returns to find Collinswood in shambles, his distant relatives dysfunctional, and Angelique thriving as head of a competing fish cannery. Oh, and it's 1972. Let the games begin, as Barnabas tries to reassert himself within the Collins family, now led by Elizabeth (Michelle Pfeiffer), her brother Roger (Jonny Lee Miller), niece Carolyn (Chloe Grace Moretz), nephew David (Gulliver McGrath), live-in nature walk, lesson, animal presentation or craft. Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) information Retiring members, who need to build an estate to protect their families from the loss of retirement benefits if they die, should use the Survivor Benefit Plan as the floor of their protection. This inexpensive protection will ensure their spouse will have guaranteed income for life. Insurance and investment plans have a place in the estate plan of many retiring members, but as a supplement to SBP, not as a replacement for SBP. Additional details are available by calling your SBP Counselor, Gayle McCloy at 801-777-2863. Join an Ogden Nature Center teacher/naturalist for a guided Update your Virtual Emergency Data The Virtual Record of Emergency Data (vRED) or Department of Defense Form 93 (DD Form 93), is probably the most important document in a military record. The vRED provides information on a member's primary next-of-kin (NOK), secondary NOK, and other persons to notify in case of death, psychoanalyst Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter) and, believe it or not, a caretaker named Willie (Jackie Earle Haley). Depp's Barnabas glides stoically around the mansion like a preening cat, mimicking the classically trained Jonathan Frid, who originated the role. Sadly, Frid passed away less than a month ago, probably after he saw what they had done to his signature character. He has a small cameo in the gala ball scene. Blink and you'll miss him. The rest of this Tim Burton film goes from silly to sadistic, featuring characters who have little to do but get in the way of the Barnabas vs. Angelique spat. This least horrifying horror film offers a few weak jokes — like, Alice Cooper is the ugliest woman ever, or the big glowing "M" above McDonald's being mistaken for a sign from Mephistopheles. Who? He's a demon in German folklore. And you can imagine what Barnabas makes of a '70s lava lamp. It feels like a half-hearted, scattered attempt at unresolved chaos in a Disney-esque Haunted Mansion. I was shocked, since I went with low expectations in the first place. Turns out, "Dark Shadows" is dim and disappointing. Steve Salles can be reached at films@standard.net . TriWest Healthcare Alliance y ou went to your primary care manager and she suggested you go see a specialist. Maybe it's for an evaluation; maybe it's for a specific treatment. You just know you need to make another appointment and you want to make it quickly. Whether this is your first referral or your fiftieth, having all your information before making the appointment can save you time and money. Quickly start managing your referral information when you register on TriWest.com . What's a referral? When you need care that your primary doctor can't provide, you will get a referral to see someone else. The request for a referral goes to ThWest Healthcare Alliance and ThWest processes the referral and matches your needed care with a local network specialist (when available). If you live near a military installation with a medical clinic, and that medical clinic offers the specialty care, you may be assigned to the military clinic for care. When your referral request is authorized, ThWest will let you know: • The name and contact information of your network specialist • The expiration date of your referral (if you don't make your appointment within the time allowed, you may have to go back to your primary doctor for a new referral). You contact the network spe- cialist and make your appointment. Network providers will submit claims to TriWest and send any results back to your primary doctor. TriCare Standard and ThCare Extra plans don't require referrals or primary care managers. There are, however, higher out-of-pocket costs for care under those plans How do I get my specialist's information? Register for a TriWest.com account, and you will receive an email when your referral is processed — usually within a day or two of your primary doctor submitting the request. Then, you can log into your TriWest.com account to view your specialist. Go to West.com/Register. You can also choose to get a letter with your specialist information, but that could arrive 10 days after the request is made. Why is it important to know my assigned specialist? If you don't go to a TriCare network specialist (or the military clinic if you're assigned to go there), you could end up paying out-of-pocket for your care. If you're wondering if there are network specialists near you, you can use TriWest's Provider Directory. Find providers by specialty, location or name. When you're at your desktop or laptop, go to TriWest.com/ProviderDirectory When you're on the go, bookmark m.TriWest.com in your mobile device to use the interactive provider directory.
