As if that weren't enough, she also placed third in handicap all events and took sixth with Melissa Edwards for women's doubles. "It felt great," she said. After having elbow surgery and working her way up to a 12 pound ball and then a 14 pound ball, she was a bit surprised at her showing. "You never know how well you're going to do until you start bowling," she said. "The other members of the team were excited and I was excited." Hill AFB Youth Center talent competition ALEX R. LLOYD/U.S. Air Force BY RYAN LARSEN Hilltop Times correspondent T he Hill Youth Center recently held a talent contest for the Air Force Nell Buckely Performing Arts Series. Winning talents had the chance to move up from base level to the Air Force level and be given the opportunity to perform with the Air Force Pops in Blue at the winner's installation. The Nell Buckely Performing Arts Series is an annual Air Force-wide talent competition in which individual bases hold their own talent competitions. Winners are then chosen in selected age categories and videos are sent in for Air Force-wide judging. Nine-year-old Maria Maisonet took top honors at Hill's competition and brought home the prize of a $75 Wal-Mart gift card. Maria played the piano, performing the Bugs Bunny Theme "This is it." She is the daughter of Lt. Col. Anthony Maisonet, of 75th SFS/CC and wife Aileen Maisonet. "The Youth Center did an awesome job and it was very well put together," said Aileen Maisonet. "I am very pleased with and excited for her (Maria) and glad she developed an interest in piano." It was the first time Maria had performed for a competition. Antelope Island State Park Operation 'Restore the Road' BY SENIOR AIRMAN AMANDA VASQUEZ 75th Medical Support Squadron T he combat medics from the 75th Medical Support Squadron executed Operation 'Restore the Road' on May 14 helping repair road at Antelope Island State Park damaged by water erosion. "The bugs were everywhere and bug spray only seemed to attract the ferocious little critters!" exclaimed 1st Lt. Daniel Prather. While the bugs were indeed tenacious, the combat medics were well prepared with proper clothing and netting, which enabled them to focus on the task at hand — repairing two areas of road badly damaged by water erosion. The medics used about 2,000 pounds of dirt to build berms, preventing future water erosion. They also cleared out brush and created a path for water to flow away from the road. "The road repairs made by the combat medics will prevent future erosion and will help us ensure our road is safe for hikers, bicyclists and vehicles" said Park Ranger Chris Haramoto.
