Show HILLTOP TIMES TIMES May 12, 2011 Transition from military to work force presentation T he Airman and Family Readiness Center is sponsoring a once-ayear lecture regarding transition. It will be presented by the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), and is entitled "Marketing Yourself for a Second Career," June 13, 8 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Building 150. Transition is ultimately a part of all military careers. The lecture is perfect for those who are contemplating retirement in one to five years. Regardless of whether any service member has reached the point of being in transition, they should be educated about the process in order to mentor and counsel those who work for them and are contemplating or going through their transitions. This "executive summary" presentation can prepare them for that role as well as many multi-day programs. The lecture will be given by Col. (Ret.)Dan Koslov, now a deputy director of transition services on MOAA's national staff. For further information, please call 777-4681. Sign up is recommended. Some twenty or thirty years ago, a new enthusiast trying to learn the sport had to take his chances that his aircraft would be demolished within a moment or two of flying time. The dual-control method THOMAS now allows beginners a period of time to get the hang of flying before solo flights — perfect for kids and the newly introduced enthusiast. "If you prefer to keep your RC model in the dirt, check out the large RC Car dirt track adjacent to the flying field," LaRocque added. Thomas who is 43, looks to be in her early to middle 30s, and is a living example of how fitness and a healthy lifestyle can keep a person youthful. She and her daughter are vegetarians, but she does not mind if others are not — it is an ethical choice for her, she said. Thomas does eat eggs, but only the eggs she gets from her own chickens. In fact her husband, who recently retired from the military, does eat meat and is proof that these two types of eating styles can co-exist in a family. She also has a cheat day on Saturdays with her husband where they eat less than healthy food choices. Her favorite food on those days is ice cream, Breyer's Triple Chocolate is among her favorite. "Nobody is going to take care of you, except you," she said. "Listen to your body and tell me what I can do to help. I am available, and I care and I want to see people succeed and I especially want to see them pass their tests. I want to be the person that they know they can come to." Thomas was quick to mention that she could not have achieved this award without the advice and support of her co-workers, Ashley Mitchell, Catherine Purser and Adam Clemm as well as her MARY LOU GORNY/Hilltop Times Chanx Nguyen prepares his foam electric-powered model glider for flight May 6 at the field. the action on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Turn east off Wardleigh Road by the new parking lot, turn left before the Munitions Gate onto a paved road which "Be fit and make changes for you, not someone else," she said.
