Show ilMES August 5,2010 Rod Run to showcase best BY CATHERINE MCNALLY Hilltop Times staff Courtesy photo T his year's 22nd annual Rod Run, hosted by the base Arts and Crafts Center and Auto Shop, will take place on Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Centennial Park. It might be the first year Kevin Henrie, auto shop manager and member of Col. Patrick Higby, 75th Air Base Wing commander, hands a ribbon and dash plaque to Neil Grose, last year's Rod Run Commander's Choice winner. Last year's Annual Rod Run featured about 150 cars from the 1920s all the way to present day models. This year's Rod Run will take place on August 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Centennial Park. the 75th Force Support Squadron, has managed the Rod Run, but he is as ex- 11 The Rod Run will feature a plethora of cars in 26 different categories, including "Best 1920-1929," "Best Convertible," Best Motorcycle" and more. Last year's Rod Run featured about 125 cars and 1,000 attendees. It is free for spectators and Henrie encourages families to come out. Free swim passes will also be handed out if children need to cool off. A blue 1967 Ford Mustang owned by Neil Grose won the Commander's Choice award last year and is featured on this year's Rod Run T-shirt and posters. This year Col. Patrick Higby, 75th Air Base Wing commander, will be selecting the Commander's Choice winner to receive a plaque featuring a ribbon, coin and dash plaque. Participants also have a chance to win the People's Choice award. Grose's 1967 Mustang wasn't the only show stealer last year, according to Henrie. "There was a 1965 AMC Marlin," he said. "Very rare! It was in there and it was 'stock.' It wasn't fixed up or hot-rodded. I bet there's less than 10 of them in the world." Henrie also admired Larry Kerr's cited as ever to get the event rolling into high gear.
