Show HILLTOP TIMES TIMES March 13, 2008 Federal Women's Program is 'soaring to new horizons' oaring to New Horizons" is this year's theme and that's ' exactly what we want to do this year, said Denise Elbert, FWP program manager. Every March, in honor of Women's History Month, the Federal Women's Program will hold a series of workshops culminating with a luncheon. Eight seminar sessions in March will focus on a broad spectrum of topics, from career broadening to long-term care benefits. Seminars are free to all Team Hill members giving everyone an opportunity to experience valuable career enhancing lessons. Presenters come from within the Team Hill family as well as the surrounding area. The goal of the month's worth of semi- nars is the participants' ability to soar to the next level in their professional and personal lives. This year the education and training will continue after the month of March. At each meeting of the FWP a specific topic and/or training will be covered along with ways to implement that goal. Future topics include mentoring and professional attire. Check the Web site for dates and times. The annual luncheon celebrating Women's History Month features guest speaker Maj. Samantha Weeks, pilot and member of the 2008 Thunderbird Team. The luncheon will be held at the Club Hill Ballroom at 11 am, March 26, at a cost of $9.50 for members and $11.50 for nonmembers. far more easily accomCHALLENGE beplished than doing so on your own." Otherwise, you will be teamed with four other TLC partners in weight loss. After registering, you will need to attend one of the weigh-ins sponsored by your local Health and Wellness Center, or HAWC, and Civilian Health Promotion Services. Both an initial weigh-in, between March 3 and March 14, and a final weigh-out, after the challenge concludes June 13, are required. The weigh-in is a prerequisite for being assigned to a team, Leitnaker said. Once your team has been identified, make the connection and begin building your game plan listing goals and how you want to achieve them. Determine where you want to meet and how often. Make sure to share all available resources located on and off your installation. Upon registering for the TLC, you will be provided a packet to help you succeed with your weight-loss goals, the colonel said. Teams will have opportunities to share their progress through the TLC Web site, he said. For example, team players will be able to see pounds lost or gained (not actual weight of individuals) of their own team members. They also will be able to see the weight loss progress of other teams, but not that of the individual team members. Additionally, teammates can have communication exchanges and encourage one another through their own team blog. Participants will hear from WSC leadership through weekly support messages and other helpful information. Safe weight loss The Food and Drug Administration's Department of Health and Human Services recommends the following tips to help begin and maintain weight loss: • Exercise 30 minutes most days of the week. This helps you use more calories than you eat. • Eat less fat and sugar. Fried and sugary foods top out your day's allotment of calories quickly. Plus, they often don't provide the other nutrients you need • Eat a wide variety of ' foods. Variety helps you get vitamins and nutrients your body needs. • Don't buy into the dream of quick and easy weight loss. Too much of one thing means too little of the other things that provide you needed nutrients. • Seek more information. Incentive program Since you've been "Cleared for Take Off'"1*""1^ toward a healthier lifestyle, use the wings of the Flight Plan Incentive Program to soar. "This year, TLC participants will receive incentive points for online enrollment (50 points) and completing the challenge with the final weigh-in (100 points)," says Antoinette Greene, AFMC Command Surgeon's office. A variety of ways to earn points have been added, emphasizing the four dimensions of Well- :. ness: physical, social, emotional and spiritual. Participants will progress through bronze, silver and gold levels of wellness and receive incentive awards upon completion of each level.
