Show TIMES September 14,2006 NEWS BRIEFS • Hill Officers' Spouses' Club hosts social In last week's Hilltop Times, the date for the Hill Officers' Spouses Club Newcomers Welcome and Activities Social was incorrect. The event is planned for 6:30 p.m. today at Club Hill. The welcome and social will feature an opportunity to join the OSC and to sign up for special activities such as babysitting co-op, book club, bowling, Bunco, golf, cooking club, lunch bunch, Mah Jongg, moms and yots, scrapbooking Club and a walking group. Several on-base organizations will also be present to share information on their services. Cost of the event is $5 per person for hors d'oeuvres and drinks. Reservations are not required. Leo Marquez, a former Hill commander and namesake of the Air Force's prestigious maintenance award, will speak at Club Hill in the officers' lounge Monday at 11:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by the Wasatch Warriors Chapter of the Logistics Officers Association. ' • Hill Administrators' Association Kick-Off Breakfast Team Hill members are invited to the September Hill Administrators' Association kick-off breakfast, which will be held Tuesday at 8 a.m. at Centennial Park. The cost is $5 per person. There will be keynote speakers and the topic will be on "Professional Organizations and Your Development." This evening will honor the men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. The game begins at 7 p.m. and tickets are $5 per person. Call Ryan OConnor at 585-6779 to order tickets. • New Venture entrepreneurial Course The Small Business Development Center will offer Fast Trac New Venture, a 10-session hands-on program designed to help entrepreneurs test the feasibility of a new business idea and develop a comprehensive business plan. Participants will use a proven approach to business planning and learn sound strategies for business growth. Classes will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday evenings through Nov. 21 at the Davis Campus of Weber State University, located at 2750 N. University Park Blvd., Layton. Tuition, including instruction, guest lecturers, one-on-one consultation and all materials is $350. In addition to the 100 percent tuition reimbursement offered by the Veterans Administration, scholarship monies are also available to other interested participants. Hill motorcycle operators are no longer required to register their motorcycles on base, but must show proof of completion of a motorcycle safety course with their ID card when entering Hill. This safety course card is required to be carried at all times by motorcycle operators when on Hill. Until Dec. 1, DD Form 2220s and IVIS passes previously used as proof of safety course completion will still be honored, or drivers can immediately begin using their safety cards. The 75th Security Forces Squadron's pass and ID section will laminate the safety cards at either Visitor's Center during normal hours of operation (5 a.m.-6 p.m., seven days a week). For more information, call 5S6-3564. • Fundraiser booths available for Oktoberfest • 388th spouses host The Round Up Oktoberfest is planned Sept. 23,1-5 p.m. in the Club Hill Parking Lot. Booths can be set-up from 1-5 p.m. (booth setup time is 10 a.m. and breakdown immediately at 5 p.m.) Oktoberfest is open to everyone. Activities include: German band, DJ, kids games, caramel apples, food, beer, wine, prize drawings and giveaways. For more information call 775-2084. All ranks are invited to participate, but those interested must be 21 or older. This year's event will include mock casino games, dancing, and a silent and a live auction. Items up for auction include handmade crafts, theme baskets and a very special item saved just for the live auction. In addition, live music will be provided by the popular country band Josh Evertsen & Quickdraw. Tickets for this years' Round Up are $10, if bought in advance, and $12 at the door. Heavy hors d'oeuvres and casino tokens are included in the price of the ticket. A western buffet dinner will also be offered from 5-8 p.m. in the Wasatch Room at Club Hill for an additional cost of $8 for club members and $10 for nonmembers. Increasing costs to the contractor have precipitated the following increases. The theme for the tour is "The Airport as a Small City." Free transportation is available and will depart from Club Hill at 9 a.m. The lour will end around 3 p.m. Those attending are encouraged to bring lunch; coolers are welcome. One class includes five two-hour sessions held twice a week. Cost is $175 per student plus $55 for the purchase of a PADI Open Water Manual. Individuals within the same family need only purchase one manual. Every third Saturday of each month, -there will be a Discover SCUBA Class from 9 a.m. to noon for only $10 per person. If individuals register before Oct. 14, the fees are $35 for members and $45 for nonmembers; after Oct. 14, the cost increases to $45 for members and $55 for nonmembers.
