Show 8 Hilltop Times March 23, 2006 Donations Personnel actions start to go online help troops call home As of January, more than $3.2 million in Military Exchange Global Prepaid phone cards have been distributed to troops throughout Iraq and Afghanistan The Defense Department authorized the Armed Services Exchanges to sell prepaid calling cards in April 2004 to any individual or organization that wishes to purchase cards for troops who are deployed. The "Help Our Troops Call Home" program is designed to help servicemembers call home from Operations Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Since the program's inception, 88,634 Military Exchange Global Prepaid phone card orders have been processed. Of those, more than 19,000 have been sent to the attention of "any servicemember." Those wishing to send a phone card can log on to www. aafes.org or call 800-527-2345. From there, phone cards can be sent to an individual servicemember (designated by the purchaser) or distributed to "any servicemember" through the American Red Cross, Air Force Aid Society, Fisher House or USO. Courtesy Army & Air Force Exchange Services BY AIRMAN 1ST CLASS JENNY CH0N6 Hilltop Times staff Many of the services provided by the Military Personnel Flight will become automated and web-based within the next 18 months. The Personnel Services Delivery Transformation is an initiative that will allow Airmen to use the Web to make routine personnel and pay transactions. Starting March 31, Board for Correction of Military Records and Evaluation appeals, duty history, retirements and retraining will be initiated online. These transactions are available through the Air Force Portal. "For customers, it means fewer trips to the MPF, faster service and closer handling of the vast majority of personnel actions," said Chief Master Sgt. Tammy Elliott, superintendent of the MPF. Career Job Reservations, dream sheets, citizenships, separations, assignments, formal training, reenlistments and military discharge documents will be made available online in 2006 and 2007. The MPF will inform base personnel as each new group of processes makes the transition from "in person" to on-line. "The everyday use of MyPay or LeaveWeb at work and electronic banking and Internet shopping at home are examples of how many Airmen already use web-based services," Chief Elliott said. "We're going to catch up with the rest of the world." If problems are encountered with the Web service, Airmen can call a contact center and speak to a specialist. "These easy to use and accessible tools will minimize the need for face-to-face assistance with your personnel transactions, and put you more in control for managing your career information," Chief Elliott said. The MPF is hosting briefings at the base theater to educate customers on PSD. She en- New Free Report Reveals...
