"This tournament has a long and proud history," said Hubbard Golf Course manager Wayne Volk. "The Commander's Cup Tournament is always fun and exciting. It seems we also bring good luck to golf pros who participate in our tournament. Many of them have gone on to win major tournaments in the year following their participation in this tournament." BY MARILU TRAINOR Ogden ALC Public Affairs More than 120 golfers have signed up to participate in Monday's 2005 Hill Air Force Base Commander's Cup Golf Tournament at the Hubbard Golf Course. The tournament starts at 10 a.m., and prizes will be awarded for: closest to the hole, longest drive for men and women, and any hole-in-ones made. Winners of the Commander's Cup will be announced at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from the event will go to the Hill Aerospace Museum's exhibits and capital building fund. "We've signed up a full slate of teams this year," said Ron Pauling, the base's liaison to the tournament committee. "We've also planned many special programs for those who are not participating in the tournament. We hope everyone at the base will come to the golf course and participate in these events." Many of Utah's top Section Professional Golf Association members have committed to play with the 30 teams who have signed up to participate in the tourney and will be the "captains" of each foursome. America First Credit Union also plans to sponsor two of the foursomes that will be made up of military members recently returned from overseas deployments. These include: • A golf clinic with Mr. Forsman from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Mr. Forsman will demonstrate full swing and short game techniques and answer questions about golf. • "First Swing Juniors Program" at 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by the 75th Mission Support Group's Services Division, Hubbard Golf Course employees and volunteers will mentor junior golfers (up to age 16) on the finer skills of the game. Each of the first 125 participants signed up for the program will receive a free cut-down golf club and be able to use it to practice their newly learned techniques. They will also have free use of range balls for the afternoon. Free hot dogs and a beverage will also be available. • Free golf after the Commander's Cup Tournament ends. This event is open to 25 teams of formerly deployed personnel and their family members and begins with a 4: 30 p.m. shotgun start. Each foursome participating will also receive use of a cart. For more information or to participate, call the Hubbard Golf Course at 777-3272. • After 4:30 p.m., military and civilian employees and family members can come to the golf course, watch all the action and hit free range balls into the twilight hours. Several Hill Airmen recently received nonjudicial punishments for violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Because these are nonjudical punishments handled by commanders, the names of the individuals are not released. An Airman First Class from the 388th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron received nonjudicial punishment for driving while under the influence of alcohol in violation of Article 111 of the UCMJ. For his misconduct, he received a reduction to the grade of Airman Basic, a suspended forfeiture of S250 pay per month for two months, 45 days extra duty, and a reprimand. A Staff Sergeant from the 388th Component Maintenance Squadron received nonjudicial punishment for failing in his duties to follow proper documenting, inspecting, and correcting procedures in violation of Article 92 of the UCMJ. He also reported late for duty in violation of Article 92 of the UCMJ. For his misconduct, he received a suspended reduction to the grade of Senior Airman, a forfeiture of $200 pay per month for two months, and 30 days extra duty. The building has also been upgraded to reflect a professional training atmosphere. New classes are being offered this month and will continue throughout the year. Both level one (beginner) and level two classes are available to Hill AFB Airmen. Since July 2004, more than 200 Hill Airmen have graduated from level-one training. The class is open to all Airmen, including Reservists and National Guardsmen.
