Show CONGRESS WILL ACT 1161 11 61 WILL NOT WAIT UNTIL AFTER THE HOLIDAYS TO BEGIN REGULAR WORK an effort will be made to carry into effect recommendations of the pres dent in his annual and spec al messages washington appropriation leg sla tion will be undertaken by congress before tl e adjournment for the noli boll days there has been a general sup position that all measures of any character would be postponed until after the first of january there are two elements in congress one favors extensive general legisla tion tie other takes the position that as a general tariff bill was passed in the extra session congress should be content to do little more this sess on than pass the ap altion bills all recognize however that some effort will be made ably to carry into effect recommend menda a eions of the president whether con tamed in his annual message or in special messages he is lading lacing out an extensive extensive program and nobody believes that it will be possible to do ill that he will asb ask his recommend a eions with reference to railroad leg isolation are apt to give more trouble than anything else because it is ex pecked that there will be a public de mand for much that he will becom mend and because congress is al ways divided on the policy to be pur sued with reference to the railroads the con on pol cy postal sav ings merchant marines and other questions v ill III not attract so much at and may be more easily put aside than the railroad question there is a general antipathy to bond issues and any measure involving such a feature will be carefully con before it is adopted no one expects any anti trust legis lation the supreme court passes on important cases ini in solving the sherman law now before the tribunal |
