To iulustrate how tightly linked together are the predatory corporations comprising the Inner Ring of the Chamber of Commerce and satellite organizations, we cite the efficient use of interlocking memberships, characteristic of Utah’s Invisible Government. Fred 8S. Mulock, of New England thrift fame, and viceroy of U. 8S. Smelting, Mining & Refining Company, is a leading member of the Inner Ring. He also is a demi-god in the Utah Manufacturers Association. L. K. Nicholson, A. S. & R. Company, is another stalwart smelter executive detailed to sit in the Inner Ring of the Chamber. In addition to that lofty service he acts as 2nd V. P. and Director of the Utah Manufacturers Association. Nicholson formerly was treasurer of the Manufacturers Association. However, the treasurers of that mghteous institution were not the actual custodians of the ‘‘Corrupt Utah’’ slush fund. Stan Stepenson was the ‘‘fall guy’’ for that semi-criminal job. Charles 'T. S. Parsons, trusted hatehet man of Stannard, Jackling and Doug Moffat in the Copper domain is, of course, Copper’s faithful representative in the Chamber Inner Ring. he is treasurer and director of the Utah Manufacturers Association. But like his predecessor in that high office, he does not handle the boodle fund of ‘‘Build Utah’’. As already stated, Stan Stephenson takes the rap on that. R. H.’ Ashworth, Kilowatt handy man, is Mr. Gadsby’s chore boy in the Chamber Inner Ring. But Gadsby makes all the important decisions. Ashworth is assisted by the suave Jube Hale, who has been rigation Committee of the wore three-cornered pants. chairman Chamber of the Ir- sinee. he Ashworth also carries the load in the Utah Manufacturers Association. However, the Securities & Exchange Commission relieved him of the pleasant duty of toting a $2,000 check each year from Kilowatt Treasurer Jones to disbursing agent, Stan Stephenson for use in the ‘‘Corrupt Utah’’ division of the Utah Manufacturers Association. Of course, Utah’s Eagle, Orval W. Adams, managing V. P. of the Utah State National Bank, is always present in any predatory combination in Utah. Orval is getting quite cagey about handling political funds, or even contributing since the Searchlight discussed his 1940 doings so freely. Orval isa gifted member of the Inner Ring; a high cockalorum in the Stan Stephenson gang; and one of the bosses of the notorious Deseret News. That should satisfy almost any ambition. But not Orval’s. He wants to occupy the Hagle’s Nest at Washington. Harold H. Bennett of ZCMI is an ace member of the Inner Ring, and handsome front of the Anti-Labor Relations Council. R. W. Madsen—Utah’s version of Two-ton Tony— holds down ZCMI’s seat in the Utah Manufacturers Association. While Dick resembles composite Siamese twins, Harold Bennett does the actual twinning in the Inner Ring and the Anti-Labor Relations Couneil. Organized and manipulated ‘‘Agriculture’’ sits in the interlocking scheme of predatory corporations with Clyde C. Eggmonds as its (Continued on following page) |
