The Ogden-Weber Community Action Partnership, Inc. Offers Help for Marriages To avoid serious and costly auto repairs, many of us religiously get our oil changed every 3,000 miles. We have our annual dental check-up and health exams. In our homes we check our furnace and fire alarms. Yet how often do we do a check-up on our marriage? Regularly scheduled maintenance and check-ups for your marriage can help you build and maintain a more satisfying and successful relationship and help resolve challenges in order to avoid more serious problems from developing. The Ogden-Weber Community Action Partnership, Inc. has put together a “Your Marriage Check-up Kit,” that provides an opportunity to take a close look at your relationship. If there is need for repairs or an overhaul, materials are included to help you get started. Your Marriage Check-up Kit includes: 1. Marriage Check-up Questionnaire (including information on how to set up a clinical consultation) 2. Resource Guide 3. A video and workbook compliments of the Governor’s Commission on Marriage & Utah Department of Workforce services: Video: The Marriage News You Can Use Workbook: Building a Successful Marriage: A Handbook for You and Your Spouse We hope that you find the kit useful. After filling out the questionnaire and reviewing it as a couple, if you would like a copy of the video and workbook, or would like to arrange for a clinical consultation or receive a referral for services, please call Jeff Tesch M.S., LMFT at 399-9281 x312. Jeff can also be reached by email at <jtesch@owcap.org> Congratulations on your commitment to build your relationship. Marriage Check-up Questionnaire Jeff Tesch M.S., LMFT Instructions: Answer the questions honestly. After each spouse has completed the questionnaire, schedule a time to go over it as a couple. D.A.R.E teaches how to resist drugs and violence. They also teach us a lot about cigarettes, marijuana, tobacco, alcohol, and lots of other drugs. Officer Miners gave us a book to teach us about all the kinds of drugs, and what we learned about at that lesson. At the end of the class, we had to write a report about what we learned through D.A.R.E and how D.A.R.E has changed our lives. If you wrote the report and turned it in you would graduate from D.A.R.E. We had a D.A.R.E graduation ceremony on January 22, 2004. To graduate we had to turn in our workbooks and our report. We received prizes like T-shirts, erasers, pencils, and rulers. Some other officers came and they brought their police dogs. They showed us how the dogs work. Officers had a tennis ball that smelled like marijuana, and they hid it. Then they brought in one of the dogs and he found the ball. They also brought their biting equipment. One of the officers put it on and showed us how much power the dog had. It was awesome! Thank you Officer Miners for the class that you gave us! I learned a lot during D.A.R.E and I hope you keep teaching the 6th graders that come after us just how to say “No!” Valley Students Display Science Fair Projects The 6th grade science fair took place January 21, 2004. Sixth graders did a project with a partner (or without), and they put together a Science Fair where everyone came to see the displays. front of the whole school. One at a time, individual classes would come in and see the projects. Some parents came and saw their child’s project. Some of the teachers and the parents that came were judges. They were handed a piece of paper when they came in, and when they left, they handed the paper to one of the 6th grade teachers. Not all of the Mrs. Hogge and Mrs. Evans—6th grade science teachers—told us that we could do a project on heat, light, sound, and/or microbiology. Then we put together our projects. First we had to present the projects that we did to our science teacher, just to see if it met the criteria. Then we presented them in students’ projects made it to district, but they did a fantastic job! About 50 kids are going to the district meet February 19 that will be held at the Weber State University ballroom. Great job 6th grade!
