Then, on March 2, 1926, the voters in this consolidated district took a historic step forward by approving a bond issue to build the first Weber High School. when Weber County High School opened for its first year. Until then, the Weber School District operated in each community, grade schools that generally went through the 9th grade, and others through the 10th. To finish high school, graduates of those community schools had to attend the Weber Academy (forerunner of Weber State College) or the Ogden High School operated by Ogden City School District. The bond issue approved by a 733 to 480 vote on March 2, 1926, authorized the Weber Board of Education to issue $300,000 in bonds to buy a site, build, and furnish a “Weber County High School.” Because of a strong feeling in each community that it should have the new high school, the board of education decided to place it as near the center of the county as possible. This was on the east side of Washington Boulevard between 11th and 12th Streets (the current site of Stop and Shop shopping center). The site was purchased from three property owners—Read, Barker, and Sharratt for $14,700. Bids to construct the new high school were opened in early April. The general construction contract was awarded to C. F. Dinsmore and Company on a low bid of $184,180. The plumbing and heating contract went to Halverson Brothers on a bid of $36,000. This company, now the Marlowe Halverson Plumbing and Heating Company, also did the plumbing and heating for the new high school in Pleasant View under a 1.2 million dollar contract. Architect for the original Weber High School was Charles Wood. Construction was started as soon as weather permitted in the spring of 1926. Although the building wasn’t completely finished until 1927, the school was used at the beginning of the school year in the fall of 1926. Keith Wahlquist was appointed principal This wing was completed in 1954. On January 30, 1959, the new $120,000 Warrior gym, with a seating capacity of 3,400 was dedicated. The original Weber High School had seven principals—two of them serving twice. Keith Wahlquist was principal until 1934, when he was named district superintendent. John Q. Blaylock was named principal in 1934 and served until 1938, when Ralph B. Sanford was named principal. He was succeeded by Dasil Smith in 1942. Mr. Smith was called into the army as a major soon after the school year started, and A. Parley Bates became principal. Mr. Bates was appointed district superintendent in 1944, and Roy Metcalf was named Weber High School principal.
