Supreme Court to Hear Oral Argument on Rulon Jones Land Sale By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News The Utah Supreme Court will hear Petitioners’ claim that Defendants in the case, Weber County Commissioners Glen Burton, Ken Bischoff, and, Camille Caine, illegally sold 160 acres of public property near Powder Mountain to Rulon Jones in February of 1997 in order to extinguish a budget shortfall. The property in litigation is situated west of Powder Mountain Ski Resort in Ogden Valley. Plaintiffs claim that Defendants did not follow proper constitutional due process guidelines when they failed to give proper public notice prior to the sale of the mountain property. The Utah Supreme Court will hear the case on June 4, 2002, at 9:00 a.m. at the Scott Matheson Court House, located in Salt Lake City on the southwest corner of State Street and 4th South. The public is invited to attend. Free Way Riders Tri-State Rally to Be Held in Ogden Valley The Free Way Riders are the Ogden Chapter of the Christian Motorcyclist Association (CMA). CMA is an international ministry dedicated to serving the motorcycling community. CMA’s headquarters are located in Hatifield, Arkansas. CMA has over 400 chapters located all over the world, with over 60,000 members. CMA divides the country up into regions, with a CMA evangelist assigned to each. Each region is then divided into states. Because of the vast western area, Utah is joined with Idaho and Northern Nevada to form the Tri-State Area. CMAchapters representing this Tri-State area are located in Twin Falls, Blackfoot, and Boise, Idaho; Elko, Nevada; Logan, Ogden, Salt Lake City, and in the Provo-Orem area. Each year each state holds a “rally.” Formed in 1992, the Ogden Chapter was the first CMAchapter formed in Utah. Because this is its tenth anniversary, a request was made to hold the rally in this area. What better, more beautiful place, than Ogden Valley. The rally will be held at Snowcrest Jr. High School. People from all over the Tri-State area, as well as neighboring states, will come together for a time of teaching, fellowship, and fun. The event is open to the public. Most of the participating families will set up camp on the school grounds on Friday, although some will arrive on Saturday as well. The rally will begin with an evening meeting on Friday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. The meeting is traditionally a time of music, sharing, teaching, and fellowship. On Saturday morning, a service will be held, followed by a motorcycle ride through the Valley. The afternoon will bring bike games, seminars and fellowship. Another service will be held Saturday evening, followed by an outdoor concert of Christian music, and a “ pie run.” Another service will be held Sunday morning, and the group will then disperse. The public is welcome to drop by to look at the bikes, join in any meeting, or just to watch the bike games. Between 150 and 200 participants are anticipated at the event. CMA is a family oriented ministry, with programs for children, teens, and adults. For more information, call Rick or Debbie at 745-8675. |
