Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume VI, Issue I Page 15 April 15, 2002 Grow Your Brain, Don’t Destroy Your Brain CJSMCF, the Christopher Joseph Martinez Charitable Foundation, partnered with Valley Elementary School fourth, fifth, and sixth graders to spread the message that life is good! Students wrote about staying drug free, and why people will find happiness when they are drug free. Students wrote essays about drugs or alcohol, the effects on the brain, and how to stay happy without them. And what a payoff! Students won real telescopes, microscopes, and art supplies. Dr. Nikita Katz, a lecturer and professor who teaches physicians, and Chris Martinez made the presentations. They expressed their delight in the scores of quality essays and pictures drawn by students. This also represented a great difficulty. Winning essays made deciding which were the best very difficult too. Fourth grade winners were: Grand Prize (the telescope): Daniel Wydner First Prize (microscope) : Adam Linford Honorable Mentions: Allison Deeter, Jared Powell, and Tessa Zengar Art Awards: Sage Goodin, Anna Kendell, Justin Donkin, Dillan Hoyt, Cassie McGonagel, Greshell Jones, Chelsea Christensen, and Dakota Martin. Old Fire House Child Care to Offer Private Kindergarten Old Fire House Child Care will be offering a private kindergarten this fall. Pat Fuller of Eden will be teaching the class. “Miss Pat” has over 36 years teaching experience and, she states, “ . . . a million wonderful memories.” Fuller taught kindergarten at Valley Elementary for several years. I’m sure some people have wondered about the benefits of having their child in a private kindergarten. Some people might think, “Why should I pay to have my child in a private kindergarten when public school is free?” Old Fire House Child Care representatives explain, “Kindergarten is the time that children begin to really expand their learning. It’s such a magical time in their life. If you begin your child with an enriched learning environment, you are providing the best chance for their success. Lower classroom size ensures that your child will receive more individualized attention . . . more one-on-one.” For more information, contact Old Fire House Child Care at 745-5600.
