Snowbasin Olympic Update— Parking, security and lift tickets Snowbasin will be open to public skiers and snowboarders every day this winter, even during the Olympic Games. In fact, if you couldn’t get a ticket to sit or stand in the Snowbasin Olympic Stadium, skiing at Snowbasin is a great way to get an up-close look at some of the most exciting events the Games have to offer. Snowbasin is the only Olympic Venue where you don’t need an Olympic ticket to stand alongside the course to watch the competition. You do, however, need to park in a designated lot, purchase a Snowbasin lift ticket, pass through a security checkpoint, and ride a secure shuttle bus 20 minutes to Snowbasin. Please use the information below as a guide and know that some details may change as the Games grow closer. Prior to the Games: From the beginning of the season until February 3, public parking will be available at Snowbasin’s lower parking lot. No security check is needed. Lift tickets for the Olympic Games Period (February 4 through February 21) are sold on a firstcome, first-served basis. Early purchase is recommended. Games Time Lift Tickets may be purchased at the Snowbasin Ticket Windows until February 3, our Online Ticket Application, or over the phone by calling 1-800-259-3957 (6:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m., Mountain Standard Time). During the Snowbasin Games Time: From February 4 until February 21, special parking, security and lift ticket rules will apply at Snowbasin. We appreciate the input received from the Master Plan Steering Committee, the National Park Service, and from those of you who have attended the three public workshops, and/or participated thus far. Another Pathways meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 30 at the Ogden Valley Library at 7:00 p.m. to allow for review of the OVP draft Master Plan for non-motorized public pathways in Ogden Valley, and to solicit additional input from attendees before the plan is presented to the local and County Planning Commissions. The following public hearings on the plan have been scheduled as follows: Wednesday, March 13, 5:00 p.m. at the Weber County Commission Chambers Liberty/Nordic Township Planning Commission Thursday, March 14, 7:00 p.m. at the Eden Coldwell Banker office - Eden Planning Committee Tuesday, March 19, 7:00 p.m. at the Weber County Commission Chambers Weber County Township Planning Commission Tuesday, March 26, 7:00 p.m. at the Weber County Commission Chambers East Huntsville Township Planning Commission The various planning commissions will be soliciting public comments from the audience. We would appreciate your attendance in order to provide this input on the proposed Master Plan. In front of a packed audience where interested parties gathered on both sides of the issue, Ski Lake Developers Ron and Lisa Cantanzaro of East Huntsville petitioned Weber County Commissioners Glen Burton, Camille Cain, and Ken Bischoff to approve an amendment to a previous Zoning Development Agreement for their properties located at the southwest corner of Snowbasin Road and Highway 39. The Cantanzaros requested the zone change to accommodate plans for a 70room hotel. Petitioners also needed a time extension from the County to proceed with commercial development on the site. An original agreement between Petitioners and Weber County stated that the CV1 (Low Impact Commercial, Valley) zoning on the property was to revert back to FV3 (Forest Valley Zone for 3-acre residential development) if previously proposed commercial development on the property wasn’t completed by August of 2002. Similar time extension requests by other area developers have been denied by the Commissioners, after heeding warnings by legal council about the precedent it would set. In anticipation of the implementation of a new Master Plan for Ogden Valley, many developers prematurely submitted development plans to the County, rushing to take advantage of less restrictive, prior zoning ordinances before new provisions legally went into effect. Cantanzaro’s initial contract with the County states that if the originally proposed commercial development is not completed by August 2002, Petitioners HOTEL cont. on page 6 Liberty Park Building Vandalized By Shanna Francis Ogden Valley News Staff On Thursday, January 24, a Liberty Park Board member checking on the bowery kitchen and storage facilities at the park, came upon a demoralizing scene— years of cumulated volunteer efforts and donations destroyed by one senseless round of vandalism. Weber County Sheriff Deputy Kelsoe investigated the call made by the Liberty Board. Apparently the park facility was broken into sometime around the first of the week. A water spigot had been turned on and left running, flooding the floor area with up to three or four inches of water, which soon froze in the subzero Valley temperatures. LIBERTY PARK cont. on page |
