Board members serving additional terms are Lorine Murtagh, Judy Macner (outgoing Secretary), Keith Rounkles, Nick Breeze, Richard Milner, and Sally Lindsay. New board members are Bob Smith, Teneal Jensen, Kevin Lane, and Cody Wright. Outgoing Chair Lorine Murtagh was presented with a clock engraved with the Ogden Canyon Club logo. A big thanks to Lorine, and the outgoing Vice-Chair Mike Suley and Treasurer Colleen Camp. READY-GET SET-GO! With Spring coming to the canyon, lots of five star activities and ongoing projects are being planned by your Ogden Canyon Club. Take note: On April 16 work will begin on the Ogden Canyon Limestone Kiln. Volunteers will be on hand from the Wasatch-Cache National Forest program Passport in Time,” the Applied Technology Center, local stone masons, and members of the Ogden Canyon Club. This project is on the Weber County Heritage Foundation s Six to Save Program. The goal is to restore this stone and brick masonry kiln as close as possible to its former structural state in order to maintain its status as a historical landmark. Reconstructing the kiln would give it an educational value, allowing school kids, hikers, and visitors to the canyon a chance to absorb some of the rich history of the early canyon dwellers and their contributions to the building up of Ogden City. Restoration of this cultural treasure is a total community effort in supplying volunteer hours, materials, equipment, and funding. The Ogden Canyon Club has received a $5,000 grant from the Weber County Heritage Foundation toward the cost to restore the kiln which has been estimated to be between $25,000 to $30,000. If you or your organization would like to donate, please contact Lorine Murtagh, 392-8743. On April 17, 7:00 p.m. at The Oaks, Officer Ryon Hadley of the Weber County Sheriffs’ Office will present a briefing on how to start a Neighborhood Watch Program, and the benefits of that program within your area. EVERYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND. On May 5 The Ogden Marathon, Utah s Spring Run Off will be running through Ogden Canyon. The 26.2 mile run will start seven miles east of Huntsville at Perception Park on Highway 39, head west and turn north continuing around the north side of Pineview Reservoir, cross the dam and come straight down Ogden Canyon on to the Ogden River Parkway into downtown Ogden, and finish at Lindquist Field where a Grand Finish and Sports Festival will await them. Ogden Canyon will be closed from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This is where you can help! The Ogden Canyon Club will set up aid stations within the canyon—one every two miles. We need volunteers—five per aid station to include one captain. Organizers will provide tables and supplies. If you would like to volunteer for this fun-filled event, please call Lorine Murtagh, 392-8743. Come and join your canyon neighbors in making this a successful event! On May 12, come and join us for the Spring Ogden Canyon Clean-up. At 8:00 a.m. a continental breakfast will be served at Rainbow Gardens, and at 9:00 a.m. meet at the Alaskan Inn parking lot with gloves and shovels for your assignment to either pick up trash or remove Dyers Woad. Our way of saying thanks for your help is a free cook-out at 12:30 p.m. at The Oaks. All volunteers and youth groups are welcome—no one is turned away! Contact Lorine Murtagh 392-8743 to sign up.
