Show THE OGDEN VALLEY NEWS Volume 11, Issue XII Page 11 15 June 2000 Eden Student Takes 1st Place Dustin Martin, a 4th grader from Valley Elementary, took Ist place in the state of Utah in Greco and Freestyle wrestling. This is his second year as a st place state competitor. He will now be going on to compete at Western Regionals, held this year in Pocatello, Idaho. It is a weeklong tournament with 11 states participating generating over 1200 wrestlers. Dustin has been training hard since October, sometimes practicing three to four times a week for two to four Shooting Stars 2000 AAU State Basketball Champions The Shooting Stars is a basketball team of 14-year old girls from Ogden Valley that participate in Amateur Athletics (AAU). They recently defeated another Weber County top team called Twice as Nice ina 57 to 54 victory, landing the Shooting Stars the State AAU Championship. Last year the team ranked second in the state. The team now is headed for the U.S. Junior National Basketball Invitational that will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada July 11 through July 15. Dustin Martin “hours. Marathon Chairman Vern Iverson says that this year’s event is going to have a 5K and 10K race along with a 1-mile fun run/walk. The fun run is a great activity for the entire family. The young kids really get a kick out of running it. The races will start at 7:00 a.m.— hopefully before it gets too hot! A registration fee will include a T-shirt and a free breakfast right after the race in the Huntsville Park. Any profit will be used to benefit the Huntsville Park. There will be male and female divisions, with different age groups in each category. So get the old running shoes out and come join us for a fun race.
